Dinner Time In New Orleans on Soundcloud
Dinner Time In New Orleans on YouTube

A song about the timeless tastes of New Orleans. After sending the first version to the wizardly ears of Ray C. I ended up doing a bunch of little things, then 2 HUGE changes. I redid the drums and bass. Scott C and Chay, thanks for your warm comments on the first YT posting, But Ray's suggested improvements were not to be ignored, and YT isn't as kindly as Soundcloud with replacements.

Style is _NWORMRG.STY (New Orleans Mardi Gras 16ths)
RealTracks in style: 2431:Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm NewOrleansMardiGrasKevin Ev16 085
RealTracks in style: 2430:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm NewOrleansMardiGras Ev16 085
RealTracks in song: 1059:Sax, Alto, Soloist SmoothJazzPoppy Ev16 090 (Bluesy)
I added bass, vocal and EZDrummer.

Dinner Time In New Orleans

My first day here in New Orleans I wake alone.
Jet lag's got me turned around. I left my comb at home.
Is it 10 o'clock? My belly rocks. It's late back home.
Gotta find a place where I can satiate.

It's dinner time and I can't wait. I'll clean my plate from steak to cake.
I'm gonna eat well beyond my means. So it seems.
Cook me up some chicken. Fried. Take two sides? I can't decide.
It's dinner time in New Orleans.

It's 5am. The sun's soon up. She looked full bloom.
She asked me then did I have enough. I said, "We will soon ."
So straight away she smiled to say, "I booked a room."
Gotta find a place where she can say she ate.

It's dinner time in New Orleans. I loose the belt on my blue jeans.
Gumbo stew, po'boys too, some rice and beans.
And everytime I think I'm through, they bring a dish I gotta do.
It's dinner time in New Orleans.

Crawfish pie and jambalya served Cajun style
makes Friday night's fishfry so worthwhile.
Anytime you want to eat. Come to town. You'll find a seat.
In NOLA dinner time's a treat. Let's eat.

My last day here in New Orleans I find the best.
She takes me to her place near town. I wait for the rest.
Is it 10 0'clock? Her kitchen's stocked. My mind says yes.
My hungry appetite I know she could sate. Yup. Eat up. (= yuppydup)

Marty,

What a fantastic song and groove! And a rocking vocal! The mix is outrageously good.

I'm just about out of words to describe how excellent your productions are.

I am a HUGE FAN!

Hi Marty,

What's this? I'm the first to comment on your song. Normally, there's a whole line of posters in front of me.
I have to read them all first. But this time, I think I've got them off guard...
I already listened to the way you eat your dinner in New Orleans on YT, but because I can't get enough of the taste (!) here I am again, but now on SC!
In my family we have some vegetarians, and sometimes they are in the majority. Then we have to eat vegetarian food too, or prepare it for everyone.
So I long to dinner in New Orleans, after hearing they eat exclusive... I'm waiting for an invitation, Marty ;-)
But first I have to tell you, you made a lovely song, with a wonderful sax solo in it.
And then the fun (or promising?) lyrics. You did well on them too.

Hans

Really liked this, Marty. It reminds me of the way Neil Sedaka would put a pop spin on standards. The ending was killer!

Marty, you have produced another winner.
Great vocal and backing band. Loved those little dinner bells you added. Super ending also!
Naturally you bass is top notch.
Loved it

Right off the bat we heard an excellent band and vocal!
Love the dinner bell rings

“It's dinner time in New Orleans. I loose the belt on my blue jeans.”
The above was too funny!

Okay, now you could write one about dancing to the wonderful New Orleans music. 😉

Lots of goodness here, the write, your vocals/bass, the band, the mix and the video.
Those BiaB sessions guys were cooking! smile

Well done and enjoyed by us,

Hey marty,

This is so cool! The New Orleans vibe is always a great listen - and you made it perfectly so. Bob beat me to it, but his Neal Sedaka reference is all over this. In my book, there's not a thing wrong with that.

I have to admit, I'm not a big fan of the food there - I'm real picky when it comes to food. It would take ten times longer to tell you what I don't like as to what I do like. Hint: steak and potato and Mexican with way too many jalapenos!

The sax was great! I've been lucky to get good results from almost all the BIAB Sax RTs - you found a great onbe!

Take care, my friend

Alan

Brilliant now song, Marty, and I love the say-she-ate/satiate wordage, but I actually don't recall commenting on the first post; ie: I don't remember the song - though I listen to so much new material these days it's not really surprising. That said, this is an excellent song and video.

Her kitchen's stocked! Ha!

Humorous theme, artfully executed. Excellent vocals with just the right balance of wonder and excitement. Definitely have the NO sound in that very fine backing band, and your rockin' that bass, too.

Lived within walking distance of the French Quarter, and our son was born there. So many great memories, thanks for bringing them back!

Ya had me right from the opening. Who can resist a bass-sax combo?
Pretty sure there is a Tom Jones thing going on here. Not the singer. The food-n-whatever guy...
A delicious write.
You sing these perfectly (like a Ray Stevens thing).

The funky guitar is a just-right touch.
Man! that sax is nice...

Yum.
Several helpings.

After listening to most of your songs, I'm either thirsty, or hungry, or both.
An excellent song with good energy and funny lyrics that make me smile.
LOVE the sax solo.
And you're not only a good singer and bassist, but your production skills are also getting better and better.
Tremendously enjoyed my listen smile[Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]

Hi Marty!
I like the chord movements in this one - and appreciate the secondary dominant progression at the end of the verses: C# > F# > B (>E). Thank you your chord layout at the end of your threads - it’s always very helpful to see what is happening.

Is this about food or something else? Or both? Excuse my naivety - or reading too much in to it - I can sometimes be poor at picking up signals.

Andrew
PS the sax solo is great; those outro switches are a nice touch; and also the verse notes ‘wait/late’ etc. are the Lennon power notes.

Loved it all! Great, creative work! Kudos as expressed by the others. Did I hear that you were an English teacher? You have an extraordinary attention for words/syllables/dual meanings/rhymes--so masterful, and way beyond the norm for lyric-writing. Excellent Marty!

Very cool tune.

My daughter works in NO. She and her husband used to live in the city but bought a place in Slidell. He's an officer with the NOPD so they both commute in. We're headed there in a few more weeks to welcome a new grandson to the family.

This time, rather than tour the city, we're going to hit the coast and check out the small seaside towns.

I liked that song. Good stuff.

A fantastic tourism treat...a gourmand's go to.
As usual it's a total package of writing, performing & mixing with an amusing tale to tell.
"...and beans!"
I love the use of the bell.
Thanks Marty

Hi, Hans. You would've been first, but you filled the tabula rasa with a plethora of benevolence so Bob, who's usually first on most posts, beat you to the Post Reply button. Nevertheless, from a guy who is a famous cook (at least in his family), I appreciate you sinking your teeth in this one --twice. Hans, you know you have an open invitation to visit our place. Perhaps we could meet in New Orleans someday.

Thanks, Bob. That's quite a compliment. The sax was the tough part in the ending mix. He's just noodeling and finally steps close to the mic because he had something to say that he just couldn't hold in anymore.

Thanks, Mario. Spent a lot of time on those dinner bells (which are actually played with triangles) to make them subtle yet present --especially in the ending.

Now, having just overstuffed myself, a song about food is not so comfortable, but thankfully, it was an enjoyable listen. Nice sax. Perfect ending. And I just read that you were an English teacher! That does clear up the wizardry with words aspect of your multiple talents.

Thanks, Alan. Once played in a band with Bill Davis (zydecoal) --mostly NOLA stuff without horns. What a blast. I'm with ya on the food thing, too --well, sorta. No cows, no pigs for over 40 years. ALso with ya on the sax RTs. They seem the easiest to coax a solo.

Thanks, Chay. Got your back, man. Saved a paste of your comment: "Great new fun song. Love the sax solo. Clever pun on 'satiate'! ☺"

Hey, when you're hungry... stacked kitchen is always good. Thanks, Ron. Wow, cool place to live. I rememvber you were headed there when I posted my last NOLA song.

Thanks, Floyd. That opening sax was something Ray also suggested cuz everyone can resist a bass opening. HAHA Ray Stevens. I like that. Yup! Eat up!

Thanks, Brain. So sorry to ruin your diet, man. smile Thanks also for the "production" nod. Before this forum I just made demos for others to do --hopefully. But here I switched to DAW and learned so much from everyone here.

Thank you, Andrew. Well, let's see. We humans, as a species, have one natural imperative, and eating is second only because the first requires energy. We also have a spiritual imperative, and this song has little to do with that, I suppose. Man, I'm definitely with you on the inability to pick up signals, which is not necessarily a bad thing. smile

Thanks, Tom! OH, NO, definitely not an English teacher. Barely finished 12 years of school and squeeked by with a C+ average. But since school, I've studied just about everything. Thank you again for your kind words. Funny, too, beause I think those things listening to your lyrics.

Hi, Marty.

What a great song! It pulls me in with the funky groove, and keeps on serving up yummy bits!

Clever idea - from someone full of clever ideas - and well done all the through. (See what I did there?)

She asked me then did I have enough. I said, "We will soon ."

Ha! laugh
