Hi All,

Here’s a short folky blues kind of thing from us called Last Days Of The Wall.

She’s got a soft heart
But is Berlin tough
She was 7 years old
When the wall opened up

Her mother lit candles
For the ones who fled
Her brother played Bowie
On an old cassette

Oh, the city remembers
The last border patrols
Checkpoints and seasons
The last days of the wall

She turned 21
In the east side bars
With the ghosts of poets
And their old guitars

These days she’s a writer
And she carries the sound
Of that early November
When the wall came down

Oh, the city remembers
The last border patrols
Checkpoints and seasons
The last days of the wall

Oh, the city remembers
The last border patrols
Checkpoints and seasons
The last days of the wall

Oh, man, chills through me right from the first downbeat. You guys are so good. I like that this one opens with Joliz, and then you come in, Bob, with all your specialness. Cool song idea and so well developed. You two never dissapoint; in fact each one seems better than the last.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Bob, you and Joliz have another winner on your hands.
Having Joliz start the song was different but fantastic.
Your vocal was top shelf.
You and Joliz's harmonies were spot on.
A great story also.
Super mix.
IMHO this is one of your if not your best to date.

Bob, Joliz,
Neat, airy collaboration. Good story well told. I was young, but I remember that time very well. Vocals & mix is clear and listens very well.
Thank you for sharing,
Misha.

I liked the simplicity of it…no need for anything more complex to cloud the vocal and message…I always find your vocal harmonies so interesting, they really keep my attention. I thought the ending could be a little more creative (sounded like a BIAB 2-bar close), but overall I enjoyed hearing your latest work!!

Bob, you and Joliz crush it again. Amazing vocals with the two of you weaving in and out, creating a rich, intricate texture. Great use of BiaB backing tracks. Really like those guitar fills. Super write, magical and cool, with effervescent performances. Love the arrangement and mix on this, too.

Superb!

Robert & Joliz,

You two make great music! Super job on this.

This one hits home with me as I was living in Wurzburg, Germany, when the wall came down. It was quite an event to behold.

You always impress - never an exception.

"She turned 21

And their old guitars"

Wow!

As each verse plays we feel like we’re watching a movie and it brought back so many memories.
And emotions of watching the news coverage of such a momentous event.

The trading off of yours and Joliz’s vocals sounds great as does her harmony accents.

The band sets the atmosphere so well with the hint of marching with the drums and the dark and mysterious sound of the guitar.

And the perfect minimalist band and a fine mix.
How on earth can you say so much in 2:30 minutes? Amazing.

Enjoyed it!

A very cool piece of writing.
The intro lead may be a little loud.
More geography but still wonderfully done.

Cheers

An awesomely evocative song both lyrically and vocally. I relate to both the vibe and the words as my father's side of the family are Romanian and the only times I visited them were when it was still communist, the first time was when I was 12 (if memory serves) and I was there for 3 months, My family were from small towns and villages so I know what life was like in that era. Communist bloc countries were refereed to as 2nd world, but they were really 3rd world. I've not been back since the revolution as the older generation passed on while nearly all younger others emigrated, either to Germany or the US. Also, one of my favourite Neil Young songs is "After Berlin" from his videoed 1982 concert "Neil Young In Berlin" - though oddly I remember it as "Berlin Live" - but although the credits stated there was a vinyl album of the same title it was never ever released. "After Berlin" was the final song of the concert and had never been played live by the whole band (and never since!). The lyrics:

Just like a young boy running down the road
I'm singing out the same old song
Can't go back the way I started from
The road goes on and on.

Won't you help me, help me
Help me, help me,
Help me, help me
Help me, help me
Take my way on home
Help me make my way on home
After Berlin

Lights are shining in the German sky
Cosmic walls between the moon and I
Don't know where I started from

So won't you take me, take me
Take me, take me
Take me, take me
Take me, take me
Just the way I am
Ah, take me, just the way I am
After Berlin

All day cruising down the corridor
Seeing things I never seen before
Tomorrow morning in old Berlin
Where they lock you out or lock you in

Won't you save me, save me
Save me, save me
Save me, save me
Save me, save me from the final day
Save me from the final day
After Berlin

Repeat 1st 2 verses

Some favourite Waoist Adages:
#1: Play on the Way.
#13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you.
#58: Bring consciousness to it.
#63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made.
#92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.
