Of course, they can't do that with really popular artists, because those people have a level of protection that the plebes don't.

This addresses some of that.

We are far from really popular artists but we “own” the name “Janice Merritt” on Spotify and Apple Music. Nobody can post a song under that name other than us. We were lucky to get that as it had not been claimed. On a side note our biggest issue is getting placed on spammer playlists. Several months back we had a cover song that was on a very popular playlist and on a Spotify curated list. It got nearly 30,000 totally legit plays in a month before rotating off the lists and that attracted the spammers. We had to notify Spotify via our Spotify Artist site to get them removed. A hassle. Pardon the ramble.
