BLINDFOLD
This was an experiment using the AI tool "Audimee" for my vocal...I think I'll be using it selectively for other projects.
========================
I never see it at all--
Self-inflicted blindness;
A flower hugging the wall,
I'm missing every call;
My mouth goes slack and
I just hold back;
Me, a withering sack
I turn away!

The action's happening right there,
Underneath my blank stare;
I may be played for a fool;
It's crazy..

One less precious day--
A day that I'll never get back ;
It's lost to time!

I gotta ask:
What's the hitch, what's the catch, the snag?
What's the use?
I wind up holding the bag.

What part's not there?
I need repair;
I'm too timid to act;
I want to care!

I never knew it was near,
Your soon-to-hit-me niceness;
One whispered word in my ear,
Life changed that day;
'Cause you washed away my blindness
And opened up my eyes;
It was good old-fashioned kindness
That gave me life.

Tom, really nice tune in your classic, timeless style. Like the bossa backing track, and the use of these MIDI tracks brings back a lot of memories of early BiaB. Hey, they still sound great! The vocals sound really good, with a rich quality, though not QUITE natural to my ears. Truthfully, your recent vocal tracks have been better (to me). Your gift for phrasing is very unique and quite pleasing. Super song!

Hi Tom!
Interesting experiment, and by your own words, you don’t sound quite convinced? I can hear how Theodore has reproduced your vocal style, but I’d have to say … without the warmth and style you bring yourself. I’d be interested to hear a version with you singing it if you have that to hand - but don’t go out of your way.

You tricked my listening. In the line where you say ‘crazy’, I was expecting the line following to be ‘daisy’ not day, even though daisy would not make sense. The vocal timing in …
I never knew it was near,
Your soon-to-hit-me niceness;
One whispered word in my ear,
seems a little disorientating to my ears - but it might be me.

I like the lyric theme - we can sometimes be blind to the opportunities before us, but thank goodness that people persevere with us!

Well done!

Andrew

Tom,

Excellent song. I do miss your vocal though - you have a great feel for this music. Very nice mix as well.

Hi Tom - to me AI means the difference between a valve guitar amp and a solid state one,
the difference between film and digital photographic images, the difference between the eye
of a real person and those of an AI face! The warmth, the expression, the emotions are
missing - you have such warmth in your voice and you sing really well, sometimes you
sing over quite complex chord sequences (and you do it soooo well). You're on to such
a lovely style of music and you write superb songs and lyrics - I have to say I prefer your
own voice by a mile!!
By the way - to my ears there's a technical issue in this mix, it sounds like you quantized
some instruments? To my ears the jazzy nylon guitar is playing way out of sync at times -
don't know whether it's the AI's fault, or maybe you need to change the quantization setting
or leave it out? Great song Tom and lovely lyrics, AI works well for some and not for others,
IMHO
Carl

Thanks, all, for the feedback. I agree that the AI voice lacks the "human" touch. I'll have to rely on something when my project needs a special voice that I can't do myself, so this was a way to evaluate which AI tool I might use without breaking the bank to hire a singer. The forum provides such helpful feedback--I'm happy to be part of it! Thanks again!

Tom, loved the groove and instrumentation.
Great arrangement.
I feel the same way as others about the vocal.
You have a great voice, use it.

Thanks Mario. I could have posted it with my own vocal, which I already had "in the can", but I wanted to see how this other one fared. Thanks for the feedback!

Nice bossa, Tom. I've made several bossas, they can be challenging for me. JMO, the Audimee voice isn't bad at all. But Suno voices are awesome! I've uploaded all my BIAB created bossas to Suno and the vocals are now absolutely beautiful. And Suno followed the melody of my vocal perfectly. The only problem, I'm not keen on posting Suno songs here (much as I would like to). But at $10 a month, definitely try Suno. Your songs deserve it!

Cool song, Tom. I'd like to hear you singing it, and believe I'd prefer that. There is something flat (emotionally, not sonically) and you never fail in that vein.

I really like your chord changes and perfect progressions. Very cool instrument selection, and a good mix. Much enjoyed.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hi, Tom.

First, cool song. Subtle strings and flutes, interesting phrasing with all your usual touches.

The AI vocal is interesting. There are some small tells, but it's pretty convincing. Not quite you, but almost - a bit too smooth and lacking your quirky. It has your lower range, but not the mid/upper portion.

I enjoyed the listen! smile

You have an original and excellent style, Tom, but like other commenters I think this song would sound way better with your own vocals.

Thanks for the feedback, friends...your comments and support are really appreciated.
Regarding the AI voice, I have a project I'm working on that absolutely needs a female voice, and I'm comparing Suno vs. Audimee vs. Synth V vs. hiring a real singer....your feedback is most helpful!

Hi Tom,

I enjoyed this. To my ears, you managed to (re)create a good, theatrical vocalist sound. The precision of enunciation and attention to the end consonants of words reminded me of stage shows that I used to enjoy back in the 1970s. In the days before microphones were commonplace, actors needed to rely on voice projection. This presentation reminded me a lot of those times. As always, your lyrics show a very skillful attention to detail in content, flow and rhyme. I admire your expertise smile

Tom,

Very much enjoyed this song.

Using AI to sing vocals you cannot do yourself makes sense.
These sound pretty good.
Like most others here, I would prefer to hear you sing this. Your vocals are a big part of what really Brings Your Songs To Life.

Cool stuff.

Well, nothing to add that hasn't already been said, but just to let you know I enjoyed listening. Would you consider reposting with your own voice?
