I'm using "volume" here to indicate how loud the music/instruments sound to my ears.
I have a MIDI melody on the melody track, frozen just in case, and I audition multiple styles for something that feels right to me. Nothing unusual there. Ddifferent styles vary quite a bit in volume, not always for obvious reasons ... I guess that depends on who produced the style.
I don't know if I'm imagining this or if the melody volume really is changing. There's clearly an influence of my perception of the whole, depending upon the relative volume of the backing. But sometimes it appears the melody volume also varies. I've gone back and forth between styles to try to convince myself about whether this is just subjective or whether it's really changing.
Jazz relative beginner, starting at a much older age than was helpful.
