I say this a lot, but here goes again - I always like your music. And what I like about it most is that it's always entertaining. That's what I want a song to do for me. You do it in spades.

Alan

Thank you, Alan. You flatter me with your kind words. But I kind of like it. smile

I also like the concept of music aspiring to be "always entertaining". That really speaks to me.

THANKS, Tom! My brother is always coming up with interesting rhymes (and half rhymes, etc). Keeps it fun for me and hopefully the listener.

The main progression in the verse and chorus consists of several variations on E-A-C-D, which has a cool, disorienting feel to me. Thought that matched the narrator's POV pretty well, too.

Glad you enjoyed the tune!

Well done, Ron!

Thank you, Rob. Have observed it enough to believe it's not uncommon for memory loss to seem oddly and frequently cruelly selective.

Thanks as well for the compliment on the vocals. They take a bit of work. But with that work, I feel like I'm singing better than I ever have. Practice makes imperfect, I guess. Think the genre for my "genre specific" voice is probably called "dumb pop songs by Ron and his brother". Ha!

Hi, Ron.

Your pop is always great - musical, catchy, well sung and arranged with interesting lyrics and rhymes.

Really excellent song, Ron! Brilliant lyrics which had me laughing here and there. Great instrumentation and production. My favourite song on the forum in this visit.

But most important, just a really well written and performed song.

Listened a couple of times, enjoyed!

Thanks for listening, Dave. Cars comparisons are ok in my book, too. smile

Hey, Marty. THANKS for the positive reflection. You raise a sometimes overlooked detail about non-human vocals: They can be technically excellent but sound like they don't know what they're singing about. Which is to be expected, I guess, because they don't. Love or hate my vocals, I'm 100% throwing my passion behind a narrative supported by the lyrics. Subtle touches like that final "I don't know" are important. At least I think they are...

Ron,

LOVE what you've done with the BAND.
I always look forward to hearing your Arrangement/Production work. Makes my ear happy.
The MIX on this is outstanding. The One-Big-Sound doesn't just come outta the Box. That's the guy-in-the-seat. KILLER.

Your brother writes some truly interesting lyrics. I find myself re-reading them several times. So much there. Said in a unique voice.
Your melodies makes them that much more interesting. Cool phrasing.
Together, y'all "have a sound". It's a good'un....
A fan.

Thanks for making Cool Music.
And for letting us hear it.

Thanks, Chay. Funny how humor and perception work. The first few times I worked through these lyrics, I only heard the grim humor and wanted to emphasize those laughs in the music. But now I can only hear the sadness as the narrator recalls the petty offenses with bell-like clarity, but not who this person is next him. This is one of those lyrics I've turned 180 degree on, I guess. But the layers of ambiguity are what make this one special, at least to me. Glad you enjoyed the song!

Thank you, Floyd, for your very generous comments. This is of course one of our more challenging listens, and it's gratifying when it strikes a chord. The mix is truthfully just a balancing act with the faders. Many of these RealStyles are killer if given a chance to shine. Happy this one hit. smile

You’ve addressed this heartbreaking topic in such a wonderful manner.
The lyric is both tender and contemplative.
And your mastery of song production truly did it justice.

The two “I don’t know” vocals at the close of the song were extraordinary.
Your background vocals, as always, were very effective and enjoyable, as are your lead and harmony vocals.
Those band and especially the guitars sound great and just nail the feel.

Great mix all around.

Well done,

J&B

J&B, ya'll are WAY too kind. Yeah, as the song winds down, the narrator's understanding of the situation pivots in that instant from alarm to resignation, a soul crushing moment (for me). I also can't help thinking of the "she" (whoever she is) and what she has lost as she observes the situation. Sigh. Glad ya'll enjoyed it just the same!!!

Sadly funny pop song or was it some other song, I don't know wink But, yes, relatable story and the message handled well. Reminds me of the situation when somebody says "I don't remember if I have told you this before..." and I just answer "doesn't matter, I have already forgotten it" wink

Your chord progressions and the rhythm of the words are always quite unique, I admire your ability to still make them sound non-complicated and streamlined.

Very well produced, the muted guitar works great by giving the catchy rhythm, enjoyable vocals and those harmonies are really cool. Timeless pop music in a modern outfit.

Thank you, Janne! Appreciate the compliment. Pretty sure our tunes are among the most "non-complicated" on the forum. We're not doing Pet Sounds here! I keep experimenting with a more modern sound, but it all ends up sounding like roots music when I listen back. Ha!
