Lament for Orion
========================
Titans locked in a battle splendid;
Fighting to survive the day;
Shocked and thrilled at how it ended--
Glad we bested, but not that way.

What to say to ease the pain?
Time will cure, they say;
No good story can quite explain it--
You can't unsee a dream thrown away.

This will be your cross, Orion;
Endless playbacks for you to cry on;
But someday this will fade away..

Maybe this was meant to test you;
Red will sure survive;
We all wish the best and somehow
You'll do well and thrive.

Tom,

I like the bohemian vibe here! A very unique song with a great vocal. Love that sax and the overall mix.

Nice work!

Excellent use of BiaB, Tom. Love the instrumentation and arrangement. Not quite sue what the song's about, though, and I'm into mythology and its symbolism.

Tom - very good to hear your own voice back (is there slight chorus/phasing on the vocal??).
Very nice song and love the backing incl chords - like Chay I'm not sure what the song is
about, good mix and arrangement!

That is definitely a connect your own dots lyric! smile
Almost has a Victorian feel to the structure ... "Titans locked in a battle splendid"
All is mysteriously cool indeed.
Three listens now ... determined to crack the code!

Fine vocal, band and mix.
We are always down with a sax solo. It's excellent.

Well done!

Tom, fun song, and skillfully arranged and mixed. Wonderful vocal phrasing and tone, though sounds like you might be pegging out the preamps or a bit too much on the FX chain as camog noted. Another cool tune in a classic, timeless style. Well done!

Hi Tom!
I wondered if it was going to be about an interest of yours. Given it seems to be cryptic, I'll dodge any spoilers.
Are you going to post a series of riddle songs for us to work out?
A good song AND an education.

Smooth n coll with some abrasive sax starts to keep an edge.
To my ears the vocals are a little forward but, then again I don't really know the Jazz book.

Cheers

For anyone who's interested, my "Lament for Orion" is a reflection on one of the great "tragedies of defeat" that occurred in the recent American baseball playoffs--this young man will have to live with this for a long time:
Orion Kerkering

Great song idea, Tom! I watched it, and thought of Bill Buckner. I think Orion will get a pass, though. The Dodgers have a manifest destiny to repeat.

Thanks Bob.. If his name had been Charlie or Joe, there probably wouldn't have been a song..He happens to have a strangely mystical name that gives it a "what is this about?" quality. Buckner was already an established star, and this incident completely ended the season..I feel for this guy, but he's talented and will hopefully rewrite his story.

George Harrison was the first thing I thought. {there's a story} What a wonderful piece here, Tom. The feel is tantalizingly slow, and that sax is dripping with tenderness. Haha. I like Bob's comparision with Buckner, but Orion has a ways to go. When I coached the mental game was the hardest to teach. Love this song, Tom.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thanks Arri....and Marty--that's exactly what I was going for--trying to capture that quiet, inner dialog, after all the outside noise is gone, getting a grip on who you are--you're not the bonehead play, regardless how horrendous--you have potential, etc. Thanks for seeing that.
