How does BiaB determin the start of music within a MIDI file? Is it the first note of music on a channel? MIDI files are written as MIDI events with timestamps. Most (if not all) DAW software I've used reads MIDI starting from the timestamp of 0:00 as the beginning of the song regardless of when MIDI data actually begins - BB is no different, however this can be changed when importing a MIDI file by either adding or removing bars, or by timeshifting the MIDI after it's imported.
