I've been following Cameron (Venus Theory) for years. I have some of his free libraries. I have some of his paid libraries. I'm a monthly contributor. This video is absolutely worth investing 41 minutes in if you do or plan to publish music for streaming.

This news is nothing new and has been posted a few times in other threads. I was soundly criticized by a newbie when I made the same pronouncement at the time wondering why I was so negative. Ha!

This is the reality, boys and girls. Same as the old reality.

Sadly, the answer to nearly all of his questions is simple:

The money is too good for the bad actors. It makes the rest of us think, "I like money; how can I get in on this?"

I am hoping that the recent announcement by Google that they will no longer pay for AI content leads to much needed reform.

When are Bjorn and Benny (ABBA) going to hold Spotify's feet to the fire? They talk a good game but, if you're not Swedish like they and Spotify, talk is all it is.

This is just one of a number of angles that scammers use to make money online from music created by others.

I think you missed the entire point of this thread. Where do you think the scammers are operating?

Hint: Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, TIDAL, or Amazon Music among others.

Just to add one more thing.....

the biggest scam in the music business has always been and continues to be, record company contracts for recording artists.

The newest one being the "360 contract".

A 360 contract, or multiple rights deal, is a record deal where the record label receives a percentage of an artist's income from various revenue streams beyond just music sales, such as live performances, touring, merchandise, endorsements, and publishing. In exchange for this broader share of income, the label often provides artists with greater support, such as larger advances, more tour support, aggressive marketing, and a larger commitment to developing their overall career. While beneficial for artists who need comprehensive career support, 360 deals require careful negotiation to ensure the artist receives a fair share of profits and retains enough control over their brand and creative decisions.

Read that carefully. They are taking a share of EVERYTHING you earn from the music to live shows and merch that you sell. All the advances get paid back but with a convoluted formula that favors in a big way the record company. There's no shortage of YouTube videos on this topic. A good one I saw was John Rich discussing this.
