The rabbit hole was one of the links at the end about cultural appropriation of Gamelan. As an enthusiast fusion music that was also very interesting. But it took me further to find a piece I've been searching for for years, because I'd misremembered. It was a piece I'd thought was by Olivier Messiaen, but was actually by Clause Debussy. I'd heard it in Salisbury Cathedral years ago by a small-ish orchestra conducted by Yan Pascal Tortelier and loved it. The third movement from "La Mer", "Dialogue du vent et de la mer" "Dialogue du vent et de la mer".
So at last I've found it. smile
