Dear Forum Friends

After a four-year hiatus in songwriting and recording, I'm happy to be back with you all again. The US Federal government furlough has given me a n opportunity to restart my musical journey.

Here's my first attempt.

On the day before, someone on the news said the government would shutdown "at the end of tomorrow" if an agreement couldn't be reached. I seized on that idea and extrapolated what would happen to the hope of "tomorrow" if we all can't find a way to agree and live together.

"The End of Tomorrow" is probably the darkest song I've written but it is not hopeless. It offers a prayer for the future.

I do the vocals and some piano playing.

Mike, cool song to slide back in with. Those closed piano voicings are really cool, and the whole arrangement is as energetic as it can be. Nice vocals, too. So well done. Don't think the lyrics are too dark at all (sez the guy who's last two posted songs were about dementia and Armageddon). Heck, we live in darkish times.

The shutdown is theater for an audience that doesn't even understand what it actually means. Don't take it personally. I mean, *I* did, but you can be better. smile

Hi Mike!
What a good introduction for me to your music! There’s a great beat to this and I like when it switches up into the Eb - Cm section, and the distinctive singing of ‘tomorrow’. I’m gonna have to check out your back catalogue.

What a cool write, Mike. Makes me hope we never have governing any longer. I like the chorus. Strong feeling and well arranged. Loved the lyrics --written by an insider. I often wonder about tomorrow, too. Although strongly cynical because of our apparent direction, I remain hopeful that in... say, a thousand years it's gonna be great.

I stayed on SoundClick to hear the waltz, Eve's Song. See, it's things like that that enforce the positive feeling for our future.

Enjoy whatever happens!

I love the driving, energetic piano. Your lyrics capture current events quite accurately. I enjoyed the melody; it had a subtle 60s flavor.

You took lyrics that could really be depressing and jazzed it up to lessen the impact, nicely done.

Thanks for listening a commenting guys.

Ron, I'll have to checkout your songs on dementia and Armageddon. Sounds intriguing. I don't take the shutdown personally. Only I can diminish my self worth. (might be a song there)

Bob, Thanks, hopefully my voice will get stronger. It took a hit during the COVID pandemic.

Andrew, Thanks for noticing the chord changes. I plan to experiment with key changes in future songs.

Marty, I do think things are going get worse before they get better. I'm just praying for better sooner. Also, glad you like "Eve's Song" I wrote and sung it my wedding 42 years ago.

Scott, People have described my style as "Retro". I take it as a complement.

DonnyGee, I always try to focus on the positive. My dark side takes me to bad places.

Laurent, Please to meet you! I think we have problems around the world that we need to address. My father served in World War 2. I've dedicated my life to avoiding WW3.

Great song! Love the instrumentation, arrangement and mix. The guitar solo is perfectly placed. Amazing piano sample.Relate to the lyrics, too.

A pretty cool, upbeat pessimism song about the current state of the world, really well done.
And the piano plays some sexy licks along the way, thanks for bringing this RealTrack to my attention [Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]

Hi Mike,

Ya know, this kinda feels like a Broadway musical number (like from Rent). I could see lots of dancers and some famous actor singing the lead. The driving rhythm and band are really nice. While it is somewhat depressing, it is a good look in the face of what's happening.

Welcome back Mike. Super vocal and piano chops. Great lyrics.
I wouldn't call this a downer as the groove uplifts the lyrics.
An outstanding song.

Thanks for listening and commenting.

WaoBand. I appreciate your feedback.

BD Thomas. Thanks. that John Jarvis SuperMidi track is pretty cool. It was too much for whole song so I kept it the Bridge

BYOBand. Thanks for the compliment. I haven't seen "Rent" or many other Broadway shows in many years. Ticket prices are too high.

MarioD. Glad to see you again too. I play about half the piano tracks. I have to work back up to skill level. I've really been out of it for a while.

Really loved that piano groove, that was money. Singing was good, too. I felt the lyrics were sometimes shoehorned into the melody, but nobody else mentioned that, so it's probably just my sensitivity to that kind of thing. Overall, my first hearing of you was impressive. Very much looking forward to more.

Has the vibe of a song from one of the many movies of the 60s that slotted in pop music to appeal..."..the end of Tomorrow" line is a cool little melody.

HI, Mike,

Yes, a pessimistic outlook, but dressed in an upbeat cloak. It sure is a mixed-up world! I literally lived next door to our town's high school and talk to the students from time to time. They sometimes ask me what's the difference in growing up in my time (1940s and 1950s) vs today. the first thing I always tell them is that we have lost all respect, kindness, and innocence. Everything today has to be in your face. And no matter what you say, someone is going to be offended and turn it into a dark, ugly mess.

Your song acknowledges those things indirectly and makes us wonder what it will be like tomorrow.

Well-crafted and presented!

Best to you,

Alan

Bud, the pessimist says "yes and it's only gonna get worse."
Janice, the known universe's most optimistic being says, "we've been through many hard times and will survive these."

Well done ... the band, your performances, the write and the mix.

Welcome back and we enjoyed your return!

I'm in the mood for the "the end of..." type of songs. And many excellent ones on this forum, including now yours. Lyrics describe the sad world and the loss of humanity frankly, "Well live in fear. The end is near. The losing dice are tossed./Oh Lord, please watch over us before our fate is sealed." - well said.
Driving piano keeps the march still going on and together with nice chords and the rhythm guitar makes the rhythm really catchy one. Strong vocals and I really enjoyed the high notes in the end reminding me of several protest songs.
It is good that we can express our fears through music and as long as we are allowed to do so, there is hope.

Janne

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
