Having been born and raised on the coast of the 'wild middle east' of England, which is also 'big sky' country, I got to see many amazing painted skies at both sunrise and sunset and that's essentially what inspired this soundtrack-like instrumental.
This is also the track which inspired "Rachael's Theme".

Excellent instrumental, well produced and mixed as per usual.

I have heard of Montana being called Big Sky Country, but was not aware of part of England having that nickname. I lived in England when I was a kid BTW, Nunthorpe, close to Middlesborough, in what was then called Yorkshire. Moved to Canada when I was five.

Good one, enjoyed.

This is a wonderful use of BIAB's tracks for a piece that's enjoyable to listen to.

Chay,

What a great piece of music. I love how it starts so gentle and then slowly builds throughout. Great layering and the mix is excellent. That electro flute is also awesome - I've used that a few times myself.

EXCELLENT!

Nicely done, Chay. The cello(?) and panpipe(?) set the song up beautifully. A lot going on, especially in the middle section, but it all works. Cool dynamic flow keeps it interesting. The harps are nice choices that I don't recall hearing before. Think I'm hearing a harmonica soloist, but missed it in the credits. Would be easy to miss with so many instruments to credit. smile Super mix, it all sounds wonderful!

Wow, way to absorb the world around you and spit it out with such brilliant creativity, my friend. This is as beautiful as the most dramatic sunset and as refreshing as the most rewarding sunrise. As always you magically incorporate so many pieces with each instrument comfortably nestled in the perfect location of the mix. The harmonica followed by --or accompanied-- the guitar is just like how the colors change as we watch the sky magic. We can hear your heart and soul in every movement. Well done, Chay.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hi Chay, love the imagery of the painted sky, reminding me of the sunrises and sunsets of NM where I grew up. Loved the touches of harp in this piece too. Personally, I felt the drum track was a little too heavy for the rest, but to each his/her own. It's still a lovely composition.

Thanks for listening, Dave! Yorkshire is still called Yorkshire, the only difference between now and when I was a kid is that it's divided up into 'new' administrative districts, but the old Ridings - East, North & West - still exist. Yorkshire and Lincolnshire being the 2 largest counties are the only 2 which were always divided into districts, going back to Magna Carta and probably before. Lincolnshire is divided into Lindsey, Holland & Kesteven, but these are all now divided into smaller administrative districts. It's predominantly a farming county as it's so flat - the Lincolnshire Wolds being the only real hills, but even the largest is only 551' above sea level. As it's so flat and in lots of places you can turn 360° and only see a flat horizon, you can see more sky than in other counties, thus 'big sky'.

Thanks so much, Bob! Lucy is now working on the vocal version - though it's really part instrumental, part vocal - so it should definitely be posted before Xmas if not before December.

Thanks, Ron! I have used the 'Blissful Celtic Harp Pop' samples in some previous posts - from memory at least in "Spring Forward", "Rachael's Theme" and "Venus Twinkles". You're right about the harmonica solo! It's the 'Slow Country/Folk w/ Harmonica', TJ Klay the session player. I'll try to add it above, but after awhile the Edit function vanishes.
I just noticed that I also forgot to add:
Pedalt Steel: Bash Happy Pop Country ~ Eddy Dunlap

Wow, Marty! That's probably the most 'over-complimentary' response I've ever had! laugh But I'm very, very grateful for it!
As written above, it was this instrumental which inspired "Rachael's Theme", but I think I like both equally.

Thanks, Beth! I listened to again just to listen to the drums and they sound right in the mix to me, but I suspect it varies according to the sound system you're listening to it on. I envy you the New Mexico sunrises and sunsets as I've always felt an affinity with the state. While the reality of karma and particularly prarabdha karma is 100% my gnosis, I can't say that reincarnation is despite having had very many experiences which suggest previous lives, including actually being a dolphin (!) - all such experiences could have other interpretations - but I've always felt I once lived there as a Mexican, an Apache, or a Mexican raised by Apaches. I've experienced related synchronicities re that area and era since I was a child, but I primarily 'conjecture' that reincarnation is a fact of being based on the many stories of children who have recalled their past life in detail and have gone on to meet their previous families.

I could sit and watch the sea endlessly, switch off unpleasant thoughts, and just relax.
Your song is the perfect music for that.

Another display of the power of user talent and BiaB.
Great band and the flute was perfecto.
Your arrangement builds are always impressive and this was no exception.

We are outdoors folks all the way and we much enjoyed the video scenes. Very nice.

Well done and enjoyed by us two!

Thanks, BD! I agree re the sea, but even though it's only a few minutes walk away from me I don't get to see it very often. One thing I miss from my childhood and teens is looking out and seeing nothing manmade there, but now windfarms are all over the place.

Thank you, J&B! The electro flute working so well is an example that it's well worth trying out as many samples as one can as while there's always something that'll fit - or nearly always! - sometimes you'll get that perfect fit. Initially I didn't think the flute would do it, but it really did.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.

The 2026 49-PAK is loaded with other great new add-ons as well. Learn more about the 2026 49-PAK!
