Hello fellow keenagers

It's Rocktober and as usual Gerds tells me that I'm growing old disgracefully. This song, 'αsρhαlτ τhεrαρψ ' is my little starlight serenade to that spirit.
It's a blast from the past, a bit of a rebel without a cause... a cause that's now 70 years old.
It's a little loud, a little wild, and a whole lot of 'what was I thinking?'
But hey, youth is wasted on the young, right?

So, let's get this party started, before my knees tell me it's time for a nap!

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to sing along LOUDLY. 🤩
If not, I fully understand. 😭

Izzy.

Hey Izzy,

Some heavy rock going on here. Strong back tracks for an ace vocal. Love what you did with the lead riff starting around 1:58.

Terrific production of a great song. Great prosody between vocal backing tracks. Loved it!

AH, we listeners never have to worry 'bout what yer thinkin', Izzy. Great mind in action here. This is wildly entertaining. This mission you gave us I accept with glee. [Happy, and welcome to the 70s.]

You're right, this is a wild party. Man, I love the vocals --ALL of them. On my 3rd listen, and I love it 3 times more than the first. What a fun ride. Sereriously, Izzy, my fav of yours. Great mix --and, dang, those vocals are just perfect.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Izzy, you sure can rock for a 70 year old...actually what's age got to do, got to do with it? It's not my favorite style, but I did enjoy your vocal and your humorous write up.

Ha! Another "IZZy Top" burner! Love it. That's a great rhythm guitar anchor, and your vocals really soar. The warped vocals over the break are INSANE. And the doubled vocals near the end are appropriately offset in delirious ways. Certainly took ME back to a place...

At high school dances, there would always be songs the band would keep in reserve for when the mood of the audience would sag a little bit. The bandleader would call out the song title, and the signature riff would start reverberating off the cinder block walls and maple floors of the gym/dance floor. Partners would join hands and race to the dance floor like spastic moths to a butane flame.

"Asphalt Therapy" is that kind of song...

Hi Izzy!
Well, this song has proven there is nothing wrong with the hearing in my right ear. That rhythm guitar pushes the song along with support from the drums and a superb bass choice. Your vocals have an All-American Rejects ‘Give You Hell’ quality to them - is that EQ with lots of bottom taken off? The effect starting at 1:58 is a brilliant, appropriate effect, leading into a bridge that compliments the rest of the song.

I looked at the song image on Soundcloud - sure looks to me like Nick Lowe is taking Kate Pierson (B52s) for a spin.

If I ever need energy to do the vacuuming, ear buds are in and this’ll be cranked up to 11!

70? Gee, you’ve kept some youthful tone to your voice! I’ve tried prune juice but it has a different effect.

Well done!

I really appreciate you taking the time to dip into a less liked genre and your nice comments.🌷

I am selectively delusional about age. When my enlightened friends suggest doing a spot of Yoga I tell 'em "Nah, I'm too old to go tying myself in knots"! (◔_◔)

Ron,

Thank you so much for this detailed and enthusiastic review 🙏🏻

I’m thrilled you picked up on the specific production elements—. And knowing that the rhythm guitar is holding strong as an "anchor" makes me very happy to pass that on to the quality of biab RT's,

As does the compliment of it being an "IZZy Top" burner! I might have to steal that nickname.😍

But the comparison to the high school dance floor reserve song is the highest compliment you could give. I love the image of those "spastic moths to a butane flame."

Thanks again for listening so closely and for taking the time to write such a powerful and vivid response.

Cheers,
"IZZy Top" 🤭 blushing

Andrew, I'm genuinely so grateful for this incredibly thoughtful and fun review. Thank you for such a detailed listen and for pointing out all those elements – it means a lot to know the music is resonating. The Nick Lowe/Kate Pierson image is a fantastic mental picture! And if this song can inspire even a little bit of vacuuming vigor, then it's truly done its job. 😊

" is that EQ with lots of bottom taken off? "

Yes indeed along with compression and a few busted blood vessels! 😲

The effect starting at 1:58 is Looperator

"I’ve tried prune juice but it has a different effect."

After lots of scientific research for the best vocal chord elixer I reccomend copious amounts of this

cheers

Izzy

What’s not to love about an 80s big hair, spandex rock god, weekend? Sort of song you want blaring out of your car, with the top down…..the car, ….not my top!!

Thanks another great song from you Izzy. You always nail the sound, production, lyrics, vocals. I love your stuff, you rock god you!

Regards, Lee.

The title caught my attention. What an awesome hard-driving rocker! Excellent vocal performance. You're singing younger than 70. Cool production. I love that instrumental part that starts at 1:98.

Lee and Scott

I am so grateful for your comments.
Scott your music is always innovative, interesting and skillfully crafted. I know I'm in for a treat when I see a new song post with your name on it and your latest is no exception.
Lee , the little that I have heard of your music thus far indicates a very promising future indeed!

But now I want to put this song to bed and let it swiftly fade away....................

Hi, Izzy.

Well done rocker! Exactly as advertised.

The guitar on the right side felt unbalanced - I thought perhaps my left monitor had gone dead! crazy

Lots of nice stuff going on in the mix to keep me interested on the second and third listen. smile

Izz, I came back to listen to this again, clicked on your link, and Soundcloud told me the track was not found. I did a search on your name and the track showed up there. I was able to listen to it that way. But you might want to check into what's going on for others who haven't heard this song yet.

Bob

I accidently broke the link whilst changing details on SC. But I'm glad for it to disappear as I was suffering from song fatigue when I posted it to the forum but now realise that it needs a better remix and ending.

Thank you for going above and beyond.

Asphalt Therapy

My apologies for the "Asphalt Therapy" disappearance.
My previous link to 'Asphalt Therapy' decided to pull a Houdini, and I've realized my vault is overflowing with unfinished sonic experiments. Remixing? Nah.
'Asphalt Therapy' is escaping the garage again, its tyres a little dusty but its spirit ready to hit the open road in its original, perfectly imperfect form

Izzy (embracing the 'good enough' philosophy, one track at a time)
