The opening line is found in the fifth stanza of an 18th-century ballad, "Goder natt, goder natt, allra kärestan min" and in its current form the song was first published in 1909. The song relates to a theme that is common in seaman's songs – to be separated from those you love. I translated this song into English due to the original one. In my version I sing and play guitar. Featuring Jyrki H. on solo gtr. I love the swing waltz feel to this song - if that is how one describes it. Parts of the song remind me of ‘Golden brown’ by The Stranglers - that’s a good thing!
Your singing fits really nicely with this song, and the melody and chord progression are very appealing. Your lead guitarist - Jyrki H. - boy, can they play!

You are so good at these traditional folk songs, Arri. You demonstrate why they have all been so widly accepted and popular. You make each one your own. Love the instrumentation. Jyrki H. was an excellent choice. Good mix, too.

This song is a nice blend of smooth jazz and folk-rock. There's something about it that says I've heard it before somewhere, but I doubt I hav!

Thanks. This song is a very popular folk song in Finland and Sweden and quite close to another Finnish folk song "Kuin lammen laine". Many folk song melodies have been taken to even to classical songs. So no wonder this may be familiar.

So nicely done...you kept the "mainline" of the song very simple and let the arrangement shine. I esp liked that your translation didn't try to do English-language rhyming but (I think) related the meaning of the original lyric--good decision! Really great guitar solo. Very nice, and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Thanks. I translated the meaning with keeping the rhythm and rhymes in the original one. English is not my native language and I'm not a poet, so I was satified with this outcome. Glad you accepted it.
