I did a really simple 12 bar tune in BB. When I tried to open that file in Real Band, I saw some error flash by to the effect that "Nashville 12/8" wasn't there. Well, I looked in the file and it seemed to me that the file was there, although I'm not too certain of the file structure.
Anyway, when I tried to play the file in Real Band, the sound was vastly different. For one thing, there was at least one instrument, I harmonica which I never heard in the BB version. Also, there were gaps when tracks just showed "holes" where there was no data. I didn't end up doing anything to the file in RealBand because the thing was a mess.

What should I do? I'm not an expert in any of this stuff.

Michael

Did you set the meter in RB? If you move a file over sometimes it comes as a 4/4 time. which if I understand properly BiaB deals with the blues and other stuff. RB requires a little setup since it is a DAW not an auto accompaniment program. BiaB assumes a lot based on the style information. RB can do a lot of that but also can be used to create from scratch even without a style.

While BiaB can handle 12/8 meter blues and stuff like that you end up setting it up at 6/4 which tricks the system by adding a 4/4 bar then a 2/4 bar then rinse and repeat. In RB you can set up the 12/8 meter and add the chords pick a blues style and create from scratch you can start and finish there.

I am sure the PGM folks can explain the process far better than I do. I am sure I am missing stuff I do not fully understand what is under the hood in BiaB. I suggest trying to create a nice project directly in RB start to finish, and be patient with the process and you will see it is a very powerful tool next to BiaB but they each have unique features. It a bit of time but after a while you start to figure out how they complement each other and how they do not.

Michael,

Have you double-checked that Preferences are set correctly and point to BB, Realtracks and Realdrums folder?

Also, if you haven't used RB for a while, you probably need to install the latest update (March 13) found at the link below.

https://www.pgmusic.com/support.realband.htm

Lastly, once you install the update, go into Stylepicker. If there is an option at the top of Stylepicker to "Rebuild," then click on that option and rebuild the files' database.

Regards,
--Noel

Rebuilding has to be done on the BiaB side, not RB, just fyi.
Can you post the files anywhere so others can test?

I have had the warning mentioned fixed by rebuilding Styles/Realtracks as Noel said, FWIW.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

One additional fact that came up today.

Based on what someone else said, I went back and looked at the updates that applied to my version of RB. That version is 2021.

I don’t remember ever updating that myself. Today I had at least three updates to do.

After I did that, I didn’t seem to have as many problems.

But if the problems do continue, I’ll send you a screenshot or something so you can have a look.

Thanks again,

Michael
