This is a song that I think all musician/songwriters can identify with....when you go to a party and someone says "What would YOU like to play? And then, possibly, you'll play an original song..and then?????????????????
https://youtu.be/hX2bUHUGGcM***** Song Summary *************
Title: WHY DON'T THEY LISTEN
File:WHY DON'T THEY LISTEN.SGU
Key=C , Tempo 125, Length (m:s)=3:08
4 bar intro, 90 bar chorus, from bar 5 to bar 94. Repeat x1 chorus
No Melody
No Soloist track.
Song is saved with Volume, Pan, Reverb, Chorus, Bank0,
Style is _CTSWING.STY (Country Swing Quintet)

RealTracks in style: ~539:Bass, Electric, Pop Sw 120
RealTracks in style: ~372:Guitar, Acoustic, Strumming Hank Sw 120
RealTracks in style: ~~1139:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm CountrySwingCleanA-B Sw 110
RealTracks in style: ~~1554:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm CountrySwingGrittyA-B Sw 110
RealDrums in style:NashvilleSwing8^3-a:Snare, OpenHat , b:Snare, Ride SO MANY TIMES I GO TO A PARTY AND PEOPLE SAY BRING YOUR GUITAR
PEOPLE HAVE FUN AND REALLY ENJOY IT, SPECIALLY WHEN THEY'RE HITTING THE BAR
SO WE SIT AROUND, SINGING SOME SONGS, I PLAY 'EM THE TUNES THEY ALL KNOW
THEN SOMEONE WILL SAY 'PLAY YOUR FAVORITE SONG' AND LET ME TELL YOU JUST HOW IT GOES

YEAH I KNOW HOW IT GOES 'CAUSE IT'S HAPPENED BEFORE, IT HAPPENS TO ME ALL THE TIME
I TELL 'EM I'LL SING AN ORIGINAL TUNE, A SONG THAT I WROTE THAT'S MINE
MAYBE I'LL SING 'EM A FUNNY SONG OR A LOVE SONG THAT TUGS AT THE HEART
MAYBE ABOUT LOVERS FINDING EACH OTHER, OR LOVE THAT'S FALLING APART

SO I START TO SING AND THEN SOME PEOPLE TALK, MISSING MY THOUGHTS AND MY RHYME
MISSING THE MELODY, TURNING AWAY...HAPPENS TIME AFTER TIME
I WISH THEY ALL KNEW ALL THE WORK I PUT IN, I WISH THEY ALL UNDERSTOOD
BUT PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE AND DO WHAT THEY DO AND THEY DON'T ALWAYS DO WHAT THEY SHOULD

SO WHY DON'T THEY LISTEN, THEY ASKED FOR THE SONG
IT'S ONLY THREE MINUTES, IT ISN'T THAT LONG
SO I'M SINGING BUT I'M THINKING, THAT'S REALLY WRONG
BUT TELL ME WHAT ELSE COULD I DO, YEAH TELL ME WHAT ELSE COULD I DO

SO WHY DO I DO IT, SET MYSELF UP AND SING SONGS FOR SOME PEOPLE WHO
SHOULD BE MORE RESPECTFUL AND LISTEN A BIT, BUT THAT'S WHAT MUSICIANS ALL DO
MUSICAL TASTES ARE SO DIFFERENT, SO WHO KNOWS WHAT MAKES A GOOD SONG
SO WE DO WHAT WE DO PLAYING MUSIC FOR YOU, AND HOPE THAT YOU JUST COME ALONG

BUT WHY DON'T THEY LISTEN, THEY ASKED FOR THE SONG
IT'S ONLY THREE MINUTES, IT ISN'T THAT LONG
SO I'M SINGING BUT I'M THINKING, THAT'S REALLY WRONG
BUT TELL ME WHAT ELSE COULD I DO, YEAH TELL ME WHAT ELSE COULD I DO

Hi Sol!
You’re quickly becoming the voice of the people - songwriters that is. Kind of like a forum well-being officer.

I love the line “ BUT PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE AND DO WHAT THEY DO AND THEY DON'T ALWAYS DO WHAT THEY SHOULD” - it flows so well and made me chuckle. The chord progression in the chorus is great, and the BVs add a good touch to this section. I love a good swing song, and this is one of those.

Relatable theme for us - love it. And that is why people don’t show interest - they long for something familiar. Us songwriters also have a habit that if we get the slightest encouragement, we keep going, to our detriment.

Well done.
Andrew

Oh, man. Cool RELATABLE write, Sol. A sing-a-long melody. Yeah people thinl a musician's pay is outrageous, but they don't think of all the hours of learning the craft. Love it!

Enjoy whatever happens!

Glad you enjoyed the song. That stuff really does happen,. All the time people ask me to play what I want to play and then I do ....and then they talk. including my WIFE! It's a hard cross to bear. LOL

Hi Sol,

What a beautiful song you wrote and sang!
I love the lyrics, sometimes funny and sometimes a little sad.
But the way you sing it is just... cool, that's the word!
Almost no emotion in your singing, just a kind of "that's how things go." I love that!
But I understand that's how you really shine during live performances.
Fantastic!

Hans

Good song, good vox, liked the crowd chatter. Yep, people hate originals, no way around it.

Hi, Sol.

Ha! laugh

Solid country-sounding write. Good story, love the rhyme scheme. It's feels solid and well constructed.

And funny, too! The crowd is great.

And (sadly) true to life.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Yeah, you’re so right Sol.

The lyrics flow so well, I think you were channeling the forum collective with this one. The country feel really makes it and your vocals were right on.

Great song

Great song!! Loved everything about it!
I’ve come to the conclusion that the only person who can understand, appreciate, marvel over what I write is ME.
While I truly appreciate all of the love and comments that come through this forum, I expect that my projects will evaporate into the vapor in 20 minutes.
I’m not a performer but I think that if anyone were to ask me to sing one of my original songs, I would politely decline so that I could avoid the embarrassment, disappointment, etc. that you expressed in your song.
But this one—I will probably remember forever.!

I don't perform that much these days but when I do, I really don't include my original songs ...except maybe one or two. People seem to like what they're familiar with. But I do find that, at times, when I perform one of my original songs for somebody ....and they actually sit and listen ...then they do seem to like it and that feels good.
