Wreck the Walls

Bitter reflections on an empty house that's no longer a home after being left by a spouse . Not a relatable topic for many. But if you know...well, you know.

Sorry for the recent flood of angst. I'm actually very blessed and quite happy. But sad songs are just SO MUCH FUN. smile

THANK YOU in advance for any listens or comments!

*******************

What can you tell me about your inability
To grasp instructions with your brain
You laugh about my perceived sensitivity
To the sunshine and to the rain

We race through life never even stopping to rest
While you dig in hard with your heels
You confuse my openness with my need to confess
Just don’t tell me how I should feel

Wreck the walls in the house
Where we live all our dreams
Tear out all the mem’ries
And all our future scenes
Yeah, it’s never what it seems

What can you say about your lack of persuasion
Each time you try to make me laugh
You seem to be dressed up for every occasion
In every single photograph

We try to embrace your out-of-date sense of style
And all the ways you wear your hair
When I look back in faith, I sometimes stop and smile
But I can’t find you anywhere
Wreck the walls in the house

Where we live all our dreams
Tear out all the mem’ries
And all our future scenes
Nothing’s ever what it seems

I’m standing in the ruins
With the rain pouring down
I think I see you crying
But you don’t make a sound
I’m stuck in this nightmare
And my feet cannot move
Trapped in eternity
What have we left to prove?

Wreck the walls in the house
Where we live all our dreams
Tear out all the mem’ries
And all our future scenes
Yeah, it’s never what it seems

Nothing’s ever what it seems

I really like the sound of the rhythm section and the slow cruise of the music, but in part as I'd just awoken from an unwanted seated sleep, and in part as I was thinking of homes I'd left and always felt good about them I couldn't connect to the theme. The production and your vocals were 100%. Seriously, I feel barely awake! laugh

Some favourite Waoist Adages:
#1: Play on the Way.
#13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you.
#58: Bring consciousness to it.
#63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made.
#92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

Chay, THANKS for the listen! Sorry for the unwanted seated sleep episode--hate it when that happens.

Ron,

This song is absolutely superb...

I really love the emotionally charged lyrics. The production, pacing / flow and vocals are also excellent - some of your very best and delivered perfectly.

This is a new favorite for me.

Hmmm, this is a new favorite for me I think, Ron.

I'm a big fan of your productions, just a fabulous listen through the 'phones, excellent mix.

This has a Cars vibe to me, just the mood and groove, maybe the vocal phrasing too, and that's a good thing.

Loved it!

You're a bit like me (sorry for the bad news), I also like to write sad songs when I'm actually quite happy.
I love the rhyming scheme (and your rhymes in general) you've chosen, some really cool ones that I can steal learn from grin
Enjoyed my listen.
A lot!

Thank you so much, Bob. Sometimes my lyricist's stories of pain are so vivid I worry that something is amiss in his life. But nope, he's just fine, too. smile

Hi Ron!
Those BVs in the middle are great! I like the choice of BIAB style as well. The acoustic guitars have a strum in the style of Eagle-Eye Cherry ‘Save tonight’ - great sounding!
Loved it.

Oh, man. Saw the title and was immediately transported to 40 years ago when the kids were young. Every Thanksgiving Day we'd start off the holiday season with a cassette I made called "Christmas Classics Yule Noel." On one side was all Disney charachters singing, and on the other it was Muppets. Our favorite song was sung by either Animal or The Grouch called "Wreck The Halls." I'm sending this to them.

Although the subject is very different, they'll love it. Man, you and R.W. Davis write some fun sad songs. I always prefer your vocals. Right from the opening, that rhythm grabs me and I ride it happily --I know it's a sad song, but... Excellent harmonies, and the stops really elevate the dynamic levels.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thank you, Dave! Yeah, my "home studio" is the basement den, so out of necessity I just got used to mixing with headphones on the first pass. So I take advantage of panning to create space and sonic interest, just 'cause that's what I like to hear when I listen. Any comparison to the Cars flatters me deeply (again). "Life's the same, I'm moving in STE-RE-O-oh" That stuff never gets old to me.

I am enjoying reading R.W's lyric - and wondering what you might do with them...
His lyrics take me to new places. As do your melodies...
Y'all knocked this one outta the park. Strong.

Dig that opening guitar!
Bass & drums land perfectly. Love the sound of both.
Nice jangly.
Cool BGVs.
Strong vocal. Immediacy. Sweet harmony.
Excellent Production. And Mix.

I Really Like this.

THANK YOU, Mario! Glad you liked the tune. "Best to date" is quite a compliment, especially since I'm not posting our songs chronologically. I just post what I think would be a fun listen because we have a huge catalog to pull from. But this is a new song, so...very cool!

Hi, Ron.

Cool stereo image - I love the depth of the mix.

Apology not accepted - sad and angry songs are great. To quote Warren Zevon: Cause 'I'd rather feel bad than feel nothing at all." wink

Great pop - you always have awesome songs.
