Maybe this will be helpful:

Keyboard shortcuts for converting a MIDI file to Band-in-a-Box song file:
- Press F7 (load MIDI file)
- Press F2 or Ctrl+S (Save song) - it will automatically be saved as a .MGX file, which is a Band-in-a-Box song file with multichannel melody.

Once you have the songs saved as .MGX files, you can load them by pressing F3. Then, use the Sequencer Window to display only the Melody track in the Leadsheet window, and mute it at the same time. Click the green SEQ button in the toolbar and select 'sequencer on melody track'. Then, check the boxes as in the screenshot below. (In this example, the melody is the 'voice ooh's' on channel 4).
