I debated whether to post this here. It's got a lot more Suno content than I like for the forum. But I always wanted to write a "Bollywood" style piece. When I dived into it, I found that BIAB does have some styles, but, no matter what I did, I never could capture the feel that was in my head. What I decided to do in the end is to create a "suggestion" song--like a rough sketch--with my chords/melody/lyric and see what Suno would do. The result was exactly what I wanted! However, Suno added elements that I could never have created in my DAW and it changed the harmony/melody content a bit. I'm very happy with it--it mostly captures a feel and delivers my lyric. I say to myself "Well, that's about 65% me". Anyway I'm sharing it, and I don't mind the AI criticism that might come with it. Hope you enjoy!

DELHI STOP

I am kinda hungry;
You know what I'm looking for;
I'm not in the mood for curry
Dosa or samosa.

This is what I dream of:
Something tasty and refreshing;
Not the standard fare;
Here's what I'm requesting:

I want a sandwich!
You can make me anything!
Roast beef, ham and cheese,
Baloney or salami;
Yes, I want a sandwich!
Pumpernickle, white bread,
Kaiser or a hoagey
Just make me a sandwich.
Please!

You know what I've been dreaming of:
Peanut butter jam will do;
Maybe even grilled cheese;
Tuna salad would be OK too.

I want a sandwich!
Pumpernickle, rye bread,
Kaiser or a hoagey;
Just make me a sandwich--
Please!

Hi Tom!
Ha! Typical - no gluten free options available! grin
This is a ‘grass is always greener’ song. Very clever. I guess a sandwich is easier to handle while watching cricket.
Funnily enough, I was only yesterday looking at the Bollywood loops in BIAB to create a song in the style of ‘Within you, without you’ but the loop struggled when I wanted it to go from C to Fm - almost like it had a look-ahead feature that jumped too early.
Enjoyed my listen.

You've certainly got the Bollywood vibe in this song, even if it is Suno, but I think it would have been a lot better had the vocals been Western - or re the choice in munchies, specifically American - as the lyrics suggest a non-Indian tourist in India.

Re Suno AI, even though it creates professional sounding music another key reason I'd never use it - or other AI - is because I became aware at least a year ago that so many companies were being sued over copyright and I'd loathe something of mine having to be taken offline for such a reason. As it's been awhile since I last researched it I just did a web search re Suno in particular and this is what I got:

Some favourite Waoist Adages:
#1: Play on the Way.
#13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you.
#58: Bring consciousness to it.
#63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made.
#92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

Hey, Tom. Suno is amazing. AI is amazing, too. And YOU are an amazing songwriter. But this song, while amazing, is not why I listen to your songs on this forum.

In the good old days, if a songwriter wanted to write a song in a (fill in the blank) style, he/she would have to put in the work. Listen to the music. Maybe study the music. Make mistakes. Learn from those mistakes. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. Build your songcraft. Create your songs. That's how we have country music stars from places that aren't in the country at all, or even in this country. Go figure.

Now, building songcraft is no longer necessary, for better or worse. Stuck? Just push a few buttons. Voila!

Anyway, I'd rather hear you sing a lesser version of this song arranged yourself than listen to an AI with a South Asian accent riff on your ideas. Others will disagree and I respect that.

I thought a long time before composing this (non-AI) reply. But you said you didn't mind AI criticism, so here it is. THANKS for asking.

YOU are STILL AMAZING.

smile

Hi Tom,

No AI problems here as by your statement AI was only 35% of the song. You used AI because PGM didn't have the style(s) you needed. You used AI as a tool and I have no problems that.

A great sandwich song set in a Bollywood groove.
Loved it.

Hey great sound Tom,

Really enjoyed my listen and it made me smile…. I really can’t imagine an Indian preferring a sandwich! But you really have captured the Bollywood feel and crossed it with a western band sound. Really cool.

Excellent, kind regards.

I understand the rationale in posting this. You made the song in BIAB, uploaded it to SUNO, let SUNO do its thing, and shared the results (which instrumentally is 100% SUNO if I understand correctly) with us. But just speaking for myself, I decided not to share anything that I made with that kind of workflow. I only use SUNO to substitute its tonally excellent vocal for my tonally mediocre vocal. All the rest is BIAB and me. Already I have several forum users who do not comment on my posts anymore (which is VERY discouraging), and I don't want to possibly alienate even more. If I have an all-SUNO song that I really want to share, and there have been a few, I post it on my Facebook page. It won't get many comments compared with posting it here, but that's the most I am willing to do. It will be very interesting to see how this all evolves with time.

As far as the song itself, It was, of course, very well done. I'm not big on Indian music or film, but it sounded great and had good energy. And you added a sense of humor that I appreciated. Good job.

Bob, I like your suggestion of posting it, just not here. I mostly agree with you--I only want to use the AI for some element that I can't get to myself. This one was a little different--it was the overall "feel" that I couldn't get to. Thanks for your directness in response!

A very, very cool sound, and I applaud you for trying something different with successful results. I love those lyrics!

With my students at school we use BandLab. It has a ton of (free) Indian music loops and Bollywood loops...FYI for any future Bollywood music endeavors.

I find this song hysterical...probably because one of my favorite things to do, though incredibly improper, is to put on the accent and wobble my head. The phrase "Pumpernickel, white bread" lends itself to that very well. And believe it or not, almost every night, I dance to three or four Bollywood workout songs. So, right up my alley. I very much wish there were more world sounds in BIAB...or maybe there are in the bigger packs.

Thanks Scott...I appreciate you taking the time, and I'll look into your suggested sources...altho I think this checks off the "bollywood" box!

Ha! I don't even know what Bollywood is, although I've heard it refered to many times. Guess I didn't care. But now, with this excursion, I can say I'm a big fan. Fun lyrics. Man, this is really cool, Tom. Follow your creativity wherever it takes you.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thanks Marty! My original idea was that two struggling jazz musicians get booked for a gig in New Delhi with a bunch of Indian sidemen, but this sandwich idea worked out better!!
