Watch Out Children on Soundcloud Watch Out Children on YouTube A song about teaching our progeny the real important part of life. In the 90s when my longtime songwriting partner Steve was still alive we wrote one called Watch Out, but then we were warning the parents to watch out for crazy musicians like us. This one is more about teaching the kids to think for themselves. When I wrote it I was thinking of guitar instead of horns so the bass probably should've been redone. I played bass and sang. Watch Out ChildrenYou hear it in the hallways and you see it in the news, but you've got to feel the calling of the rhythm of the blues. Everybody's gonna tell you that you got to be on guard, but it's gonna grab you deep inside, and letting go is hard. You're gonna want to take it to the height inside your soul, and mix in special sauces from the shelf of rock 'n' roll. Then you're gonna wanna share it with everyone you meet. You won't stop your preachin' till there's dancin' in the street. Watch out children. Put on your dancing shoes. Gotta feed these streets with dancing feet. Watch out children. Gotta play another day. Get up off your seat and grab the beat. When you come into the city and you're looking for some fun, but your head is spinning circles with ideas that won't come, Listen to the swinging rhythm that is dancing in your heart. Give in to the beat and let your feet play their part. INTRO-- A9 A9 A9 E9 V-- (A9)4 D9 D9 (A9)6 D9 D9 E9 E9 CH-- A-E A-E G-D E A-E A-E D E...

Hi Marty! This is a good funk band you’ve used here, and it plays well to your directions. Brass and horns work so well in rock, don’t they? I hope that with all the AI, the next generation learn the joys of creating and playing themselves. I have a son and son-in-law who are both talented guitarists and well ahead of me when it comes to production - one doing it professionally. Good song, and thanks for posting. Andrew

Marty,
Wow! This is excellent! Your vocal and delivery is outstanding. I absolutely love the arrangement on this song and the band is firing on all cylinders. The horn section was a killer choice.
Loved it!

Play the funky music Marty! Great funk groove with the wah wah guitar and horns mixed perfectly. Super vocal and lyrics. Mamas don't let your babies grow up to be musicians Loved it.

Hi, Marty. Cool and funky. Well done, but the horns were an especially nice touch. Didn't go the direction I expected from the title! The lyric "Gotta feed these streets with dancing feet" brought to mind an image you probably didn't intend. The AI generated image of music at 0:45 appears to be in 5/8 time.

FUN-ky, with an emphasis on FUN! Super tune, and your bass sounds GREAT as-is. Energetic vocals wrapped around a tight band, all mixed to danceable perfection. Super outro, too! All this goodness AND a lesson for future generations. Don't get much better than THAT, does it?!

Really liked this! Great job with the "band"--loved the choice of RT's! Vocal perfect, as usual. Esp liked the chord structure for the chorus--really ear-catching! And the drum fill was excellent! Made me smile and "dance" in my office chair. Thanks for posting!

Well done, Marty, for choosing this style and the excellent brass section to go with it, for a very catchy song. Let's hope the children will follow your advice, but be careful! Some of them are little rascals! Laurent

Great track, the chorus is especially strong! Horns were primo, always happy to see BIAB horns get some use. Lyrically, I thought it would be a cautionary tale, but you applied your unique vision to that. When I read the lyrics I wasn't sure about the prosody, but you sang it perfectly. Got that chorus stuck in my head now.

Bob Thanks, Bob. Working with the horns was hard. Even after some important regeneration measures, getting the horns to lay acceptably in the mix was the next challenge. Play the funky music Marty! Great funk groove with the wah wah guitar and horns mixed perfectly. Super vocal and lyrics. Mamas don't let your babies grow up to be musicians Loved it. Play Dat... Thanks, Mario. The wah was like another horn. Mamas have changed their tune a little it seems. Now they say "Wait until he/she/them/they is signed." All Lessons should be Musical! With homework.

fj Thanks, Floyd. This one started from a bass riff (which partially explains all the 9s ), but the song wouldn't hear it, so some gears were shifted --but it still sneaks it in occasionally.

Most excellent funky joy song! You really are a prolific songwriter. Love the horns and the video is perfect for the song.

Funny Funk, I even liked (what I normally do NOT) the trumpet. It makes me smile and tap my toes. Love it ![[Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]](https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/images/icons/default/thumbs_up.gif)

Haha. The vision of monster streets gobbling up up feet? Yeah, that's what I meant. Good catch. I figured 5/8 is like 5/4 in double time. No? Ha! Thanks, David. I treasure your comments. Thanks, Ron. Well, we know there's no future Gen-Me that'll ever hear it, let alone understand it. Actually I don't understand it, so maybe they would --if they ever heard it. Really liked this! Great job with the "band"--loved the choice of RT's! Vocal perfect, as usual. Esp liked the chord structure for the chorus--really ear-catching! And the drum fill was excellent! Made me smile and "dance" in my office chair. Thanks for posting! Thanks, Tom. Much appreciated. I like how the Memo section shows us which RTs were in the Style and which were added fy the songwriter. Also, thanks for noticing the drums. I spend 10 times more time on them than on the bass. Well done, Marty, for choosing this style and the excellent brass section to go with it, for a very catchy song. Let's hope the children will follow your advice, but be careful! Some of them are little rascals! Laurent Thanks, Laurent. Ah, the Little Rascals. They all grow up so fast to become...
