I guess it wouldn’t be right to let this thread go by without a couple of clips of this guy:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtvT_hOC80A

And of course, him playing with the Beach Boys backing him up! Who gets the Beach Boys as a backup band? And it was on one of their own songs!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16qsYreBJZE

I’ve seen him live about a dozen times and he really puts on a good show.

I have only one more to add and this is without a doubt the most inspiring. I was there at both shows and it was mesmerizing .

Enjoy.

Dan,

Honest evaluation.

The first one with Santana sucked “really hard”.

The second with Van Halen sucked even worse.

Obviously, Santana and Van Halen are capable of some really fine pickin’. Neither of these clips are examples of that.

Since your previous posts on this thread were REALLY good, in all honesty, did you just put these up to see if anyone was paying attention?

LOLOLOLOLOL!!! Did they get you Bob? These are spoof vids and not new, btw. They've been around a while. I think they are hilarious and well done! When I first watched them I thought it was real and nearly fell off the chair! Anyway, if they're not your cup of tea what can I say. Surely someone will get a chuckle! There is a sense of humor around here isn't there? Helllooooo!

You bet there is. All those Shred Vids are genious - not just the guitar but the little noises that come from other players in the band are just too funny.

Okay Dan, I guess you "got my goat". Since you had posted some really good links, I took time to listen to them. As the kids say, "my bad". Remind me to not take you seriously from now on.

Ohhhh, the band- just too great. That's why I like the Santana clip. The percussionist is just a riot! Just too funny. The guy who did these did one hell of a job. Great stuff.

LMAO! It's ok Bob. My ears nearly fell off my head the first time I listened too. But they still bring tears to my eyes in spots, I must admit. I've never heard such awful sounds be so funny. You gotta be good to be that bad.

And yeah, I can prank every now and then!

Bob, the kids today don't say ..."you got my goat", They say you have been "punked".

But that is the intention of these Shred Videos. They got all of us the first time. That is what makes them so funny.

Such a sincere and honest evaluation even to the point of being kind to the artist acknowledging that they must have had a bad night. - I am still laughing....

jazzmandan,

I've been PUNKED! I just took the other Dan serious because he'd posted some really good clips. Joe Pass and Roy Clark, etc. Oh well.

LOL. I can laugh at myself too.

I just spilled my coffee! LOLOL uh man, catch a breath....

The only thing better would have been to see Bob's face as he took the time to listen to them in their entirety. THAT is classic. Don't sweat it though Bob. When I first heard them I was not only fooled, but yelling out loud! Now in secret, you can share them and get others too!

Shockwave199,

You got me GOOD! I was thinking "What the is the hell is the matter with this guy!". I didn't get the joke. Obviously now I do.

I can laugh at my own expense even more than I can laugh at others.

Good one!

It's only fair to post the real versions. Both players are certainly amazing.

One of my most favourit Shred Vids: Paradise City - Guns & Roses

I posted that one to my bandmembers telling them we where going to play that song in the live version. Keyboard player went berserk

It's actually quit hard to make a shred vid that sounds bad, but not too bad. You've got to create the illusion it's the Real Deal. In some special theme-shows (where everything goes wrong) I do, I'm introduced as a very talented singer that is to perform a single song that night. I sing that song slightly off key and lose my timing on some spots. The trick is not to go overboard. The audience sees and hears a singer that is trying his stinking best, that believes he's doing a great job, but who just can't sing. Amazingly the audience applauds me when I'm done with that song en I leave the stage.
Most fun part for me is to see the expression on their faces when the show-host anounces the singer is going to perform and they see ME walking on stage Sometimes I even get boo' d
Then I start with "Suspicious Minds" and make sure it's absolutely top-notch. Then again the expression on their faces.....

This is my real mentor- Joe Carbone. He was my guitar teacher back when I was 18 years old. He put my head and my hands through some amazing and tough challenges. I was blessed to have him as a guide in my young life, and he inspires me to this day. Joe and Joe Pass were very close friends. And I had all the benefit of it as a young kid being around it. I couldn't play a decent note unless Joe Carbone lit up a cuban cigar as we played. My lesson consisted of him giving me six standards to learn for the next week. I'd woodshed the shit out of them and come in grinning. Then he told me we're going to transpose every one of them on the spot as we played! So much for woodshedding! LOL! THAT got me chops, and then some.

Joe Carbone, on what I believe is his D'Aquisto in the Amercan Guitar Museum. It's worth as much as some of your homes, I kid you not-

The drummer and the piano player are part of my band, I'm happy to say. It's a pleasure playing with these guys. Not to mention, we've been together for well over 20 years now. Family, really.

Very nice
That whole ensemble is tight.
I really enjoy him.
Thanks, nice catch; I enjoyed it.

For some reason I enjoy the difficult pieces. I try to picture the music as it plays ..

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Here’s a guy who really helped open up my understanding of the guitar. He’s a truly gifted musician with a great melodic sense who doesn’t try to impress you with “flash”, even though he can.
