After all that AI discussion, I couldn't stand my voice singing this, so I asked SUNO to provide a real bluegrass singer.
-------------------------------------
HOLLER HEAVEN

My, my, rockin' in my chair;
Holler's in the ev'nin';
Toads are in the air.
Oh, ho! Holler in the Spring;
Little piece of heaven,
Livin' like a king.
--------------
Now, now! Dinner's drawin' nigh;
Little lick o' moonshine;
Chicken in the fry.
Oh, ho! Holler in the Spring;
Little piece of heaven,
Livin' like a king.
--------------
Never been to Charleston,
Had no itch to roam;
Made a life in these here hills;
The holler--it's my home;
Guess they'll say "he made his stand,
Kinfolk at his side;
Worked the farm, and loved the land
And this is where he died."
-----------------
Eh law! Purty mountain sky;
Pullin' on an RC;
Pop a moon pie.
Oh, ho! Holler in the Spring;
Little piece of heaven.
Livin' like a king.

Pretty entertaining and catchy song, I especially like that jaw harp thing.
At first I thought it would be annoying, but it really adds a lot to the song.

I think this song is a great example of really good arrangement and use of BiaB instrumentation. The Suno vocal is also well chosen.

That's a great toe-tapping number to get you in the mood for a hoe-down. When my back pops back into place I might give it a try.
Awesome production. Well done.

I always give bonus points for using esoteric RTs. This was great. "RC cola and a moonpie" -- NRBQ thanks you (although it goes back to a 1951 tune). One of the bad things about using Suno, I've found, is that it makes you not want to use your own voice anymore. Sounds like that might've happened to you, too. Again, good work, a very catchy tune!

Jawharp! Fun song, Tom. You should send this one to Billly Strings. A short little piece of Heaven. I left it on for 3 spins. Really enjoy the arrangement, and the instrumentation is perfect. I always liked your vocals, Tom.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Tom,

Very cool the way you put this together. That vocal & production is a perfect fit for the music you have created.

So nicely done.

Tom, a real toe tapper for sure. A front porch jam with family and friends. Great use of those RTs.

FWIW - adding a jug player would have added to the hillbilly porch jam. Also I didn't think the vocal sounded hillbilly authentic, that is it was to sweet sounding. But these are only my opinions and other may not agree.

Regardless I really did enjoy this song.

Marty, Bob, Mario…thanks for the feedback. I really wanted to include washtub bass, but I couldn’t find it.

Hi, Tom.

As someone who uses AI vocals (albeit with SynthV instead of Suno) instead of doing his own singing, I understand the allure of Suno.

Having said that... I suspect that your voice might have been a more authentic fit than the overly polished Suno country voice. laugh

Fun tune, I enjoyed listening.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Tom, very cool tribute to simpler places and times, which I miss. Have always liked the bluegrass BiaB tracks, and you've put them to great use here. Great sounding track all the way around.

The vocals are certainly more than adequate, though they are neither hyper realistic nor authentically bluegrass sounding to my ears. Am sure this aspect of Suno vocals will improve dramatically and soon.

Anyone who can sing "The Ballad of Chuck and Jo" like you do can certainly do justice to this song though. smile

We played in traditional bluegrass bands for decades before our move to Americana and blues so we found this interesting.

Not to pick a genre nit smile but to our ears it’s a more Appalachian string band with a bit of a Celtic or even sea shanty vibe. All of which are cool.

The lyric could fit any of that.
Well written imagery indeed.

Nice mix that makes you feel as though you are sitting 4 rows back center stage in a small club with great acoustics.

Enjoyed it!

David/Ron/J&B..thanks for taking a listen. Re: the "style", I'm not sure exactly what it is, and I appreciate those who are more familiar with this area of music to try to name it.

Cool song. Bluegrass tinged country.

For so many of us whose voice has seen better days, AI vocals are the right thing at the right time.

Those jaw harp things are dangerous. First time I ever had one of them as a kid, I nearly broke a tooth and got my tongue pinched. Golly gosh Batman, that wasn't fun. I'll stick with the guitar.
