Well, ok. Maybe. But so long as the mixer sliders move horizontally, it will still be my grandfather's dorky GUI. Lovable, yes. But lovably dorky.

Don't forget with the Mixer you can have it embedded on the right or left as well as floating.

I quite like the horizontal mixer as its easy to have it visible with many Tracks, along with the Chord sheet, with a vertical mixer I don't think that would work out so well as I do like a nice large Chord sheet.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I LIKE the sideways mixer just fine. But I can't think of another GUI that has adopted the sideways mixer format. Even RealBand has the more conventional orientation. And sure, we're all used to it by now. And it DOES allow long text descriptors to be embedded legibly, a definite plus.

But I have a hardware mixer between my keyboard and monitors, and if you turned that sideways, I'd completely go nutso. Maybe I'm already there though. So there's that...

Well they've certainly listened to the stuff we posted in those threads in the Wish-list forum.

It looks very encouraging IMHO. It'll be interesting to see how it works in practice. I'm hoping that most of the "60 new features" are primarily in getting the GUI organised well and working well.

Hey Dan, that is BIAB? Very interesting. Quick question...does it allow you to use one or both of the old GUI interfaces as well?

JJJ, you can get to here in a matter of a few seconds. And, you can "detach" views (make them floating) and work on multiple screens with separate views simultaneously smile

Interesting question Jon. I searched and searched and the best I can tell there is no hidden key switching or password which will bring up any of the legacy GUIs that don’t mean there isn’t but I looked and could not find anything thank goodness.

"I looked and could not find anything thank goodness." LOL!

Image I've posted will get you closest to former "Minimalistic" view. All you got to do is pick a single view, slide access panel to the left with mouse. Move Song Overview bar (timeline) under transport buttons, instead of full screen, that is done with "gear" all the way on top right corner.

Certainly the very original 'legacy' view with all the large buttons is not available in 2026.
Control-T, which switched between the two previous views, has no interaction with the new interface. So while you are able to select different views, the top controls (transport etc) are all in the new format.

Wow, so PGM is actually putting the old legacy GUI out to pasture? That is a milestone! The new interface looks really nice in the images Dan and Misha shared.

John,

If you have the latest BIAB, one other thing you might like to do is to make the "Song Overview Settings" visible (the arrow in the image below points to this timeline).

To set this...

1) Click on the gear icon I've labelled #1.

2) Select Toolbar settings.

3) Select "Below top toolbar (full screen)".

Yes, the new user interface is an absolute winner. BIAB has turned a big corner. It's modern, stylish & functional, with lots of options to tailor your own displays.

Yep I love the new modern GUI of BB26, it's just such a big change from the old one, and at the same time the software with its streamlined appearance makes it a lot easier to use in my opinion.

John,
Yes it saves last layout on exit and will open with same layout.
It's not just UI, the way it was done, it enhances workflow dramatically and it has proper room for expansion.
With side panel you can create several views with different layouts and use them depending on situation.

It is unrealistic to expect that PG team would turn around 30+ year old software with a single release, but this was a giant step forward. I am certain that some minor issues will be found, but overall it is ready for prime time. Also, this is one of most stable releases. Hopefully PG team will maintain the course.

Honestly, I have not used BiaB much over the years (prefer RB), but when I saw the new UI, I thought "Ya know, this I can work with!"
I actually enjoyed using it for the first time. It's that big of a change.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome
