Ode to Scott

Another best friend and an outstanding keyboard player has passed.
RIP Scott.
This is my tribute to him.

BiaB style - Airy Celtic Harp Trio
Tempo - 60 BPM
Bass - Swam Cinematic Double Bass Section
Piano - EZKeys2 - Session Grand - Concert
Guitar - Kontakt - Glissando Harp
Utility 1 - Kontakt - Amadeus Orchestra - Full Choir
Utility 2 - A piano track from another style which I forgot (CRS) - EastWest - Full choir

Via my breath and keyboard controllers I am playing the Swam violin and Cello.

In case you are interested:
Scott and I met in 1967 and played in bands together from then until we retired from the music business years later. We remained best friends even after our playing days were over. We started a jazz trio (B3-guitar-drums) that sounded great but got limited gigs. Then we started wedding bands and got tons of gigs; we only played what the audience wanted. Scott was one of two musicians I played with over the years that knew exactly what the other was going to do prior to doing it. BobH was the other musician. Telepathy? Maybe but I think it was because we both played and listened very carefully what the other was playing. Regardless he was one of at least 6 friends that passed this year. I pray 2026 will be a better year.

Hi Mario,
My condolences to you on the passing of your long time friend Scott. It sounds like your shared experiences run deep. Playing in bands together would develop deep bonds I am sure. Not only the loss of his friendship to you, but your opportunity to be a friend to him also.

Your piece has an obviously reflective mood, and the loss and grief is palpable in it. I pray that through music, and your shared experiences of it, provide you with very fond memories and help lift you up when you are down.

Thanks for sharing it with us.

Mario, that's a lot of loss in one year, my condolences. One of my greatest regrets in life is that I never had the experience of playing music with musician-friends, reaching that wordless depths of feeling and friendship. Your piece is a wonderful heartfelt tribute.

Mario,

So sorry for your loss(es).
How lucky you are to have had musical friends for so long.

A beautiful piece.
Sorrow in your violin.

Excellent mix.

RIP Scott.

Thanx so much Andrew for this very kind review. Yes "Playing in bands together would develop deep bonds" if no egos get in the way. There was no ego problems with either Scott or BobH. Both gave me extremely fond memories. I feel sad but not really down as I know that both of them are in heaven, probably telling each other stories about me.

Thanx so much Tom I appreciate your very kind words. Yes I did loose a lot of friends this year. The weird part is they were all younger than me with the closes just three years behind me.

FYI - Playing music in a band can be very satisfying. It can also be very frustrating. Finding three, four, or more musicians without an ego problem can be a challenge. I was very fortunate in that 4 out of the 5 band members of my wedding band didn't have egos. But we had a ton of problems with bass players because of egos and/or musicianship, i.e. they couldn't play all the genres that we needed to play. But I do cherish those band memories.

Thanx so much Floyd. I did try to emulate sorrow in those leads and I'm glad you picked up on that. I appreciate your comments very much.

Mario, so sorry for your many losses. 2026 HAS to be a better year.

Achingly beautiful tribute, tenderly played. Your arrangement and choice of instruments is spot on, as always. That Amadeus choir makes a nice pad and really stands out, too.

Nicely done.

Sorry for such a loss --sucn a succession of losses, Mario. You are the master of putting life's experiences into great compositions like this one. For me, it was Steve & Tom; we played together in various bands for 6 decades until we lost Steve.

Man, there are so many tears in this one, Mario. What a heartfelt write.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thanx Ron for this very kind review. Yes I pray that 2026 will be better. This was the first time I blended the Amadeus and EastWest's Symphonic choirs. I like that blend.

A truly beautiful ode, Mario. You excelled on the Swam violin and cello. I totally get the vibe of it, too, as I've only got 2 male friends left who I've known for decades. So many have had their planetary bodies reach their use by date and have moved on to a higher realm.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
