Like others, life has been getting in the way...
I have more catching up to do...and I'll get to it....
In the meantime, I throwing this up.

I'm gathering together some songs to release an album (read: "to release a vanity project").
Just so I can call them up in Apple Music (for the rest of my life).

To that end, I have re-mastered this first choice.
Lots of stuff under the technological bridge since this was first posted over 10 years ago...

A favorite write.
A favorite (all) Band-In-A-Box Production.

The BAND:

RealTracks in song: 1849:Bass, Electric, ModernCountrySync Ev16 100
RealTracks in song: 633:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm PopAmericanMuted Ev 120 (A:sync)
RealTracks in song: 697:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm ElecRockDirty Ev 120
RealTracks in song: 998:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm HardRockLACrispSync Ev 120
RealTracks in song: 1529:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm PopPowerBrightA-B Ev 120
RealTracks in song: 646:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm PopRockBritEdgy Ev 120 (A:arp)
RealTracks in song: 997:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm HardRockLACrispArp Ev 120
RealTracks in song: 1167:Guitar, Electric, Soloist RockBalladBrent Ev 065
RealDrums in style: NashvilleEven8^1-a:Sidestick, HiHat , b:Snare, Ride

(Brent really comes through again.)

The Song:

THIS I-Love-Tammy TATTOO

you know that old coat that you left behind
I dropped it at the thrift store down on 59
that mug you always liked, i dropped that too
a hundred little pieces - nothing much that I could do
tending to a garden, that's just not my style
so all your back porch plants have been gone for quite a while
I gave away your cds and your yoga mat
after all what would i do with something like that

   there's just one thing
   that won't go away
   staring back at me
   every single day
tell me if you can what do i do
with this i love tammy tattoo

that cabernet you were saving for some special day
i drank straight from the bottle, then threw half of it away
whatever that was in your crochet bin
one night, i unraveled until i reached the end
I finally thought to change the message on my phone
the one where you just giggled and said "wait for the tone"
i deleted every picture that i could find
of you or you and me or anything that brought you to mind

   there's just one thing....

...and....That's all she wrote.

Have at it.

fj

HERE is the old track if anyone wants to compare the differences in the new mastering to the old...

Floyd,

This is a really cool song. I love the lyrics. I also love the melody and arrangement. It has such swing and groove. Of course, an awesome vocal. Production is all pro...

This could have / should have been a big country hit!

Do they have country songs on the radio this good and this clever? I haven't heard them. What a great idea, the permanence of a tattoo juxtaposed with the angst of a break-up. And that thrilling voice to top it all off! Pro production as well. Loved the outro, Brent gets a chance to really shine. Fabulous offering, Floyd, fantastic way to close the year.

Cool, COOL, Cool...you know exactly where to sit your voice in a mix.
The Bvox are ace too.
The ONLY thing I'd change is to add you on lead guitar.
The crochet analogy is delicious.

Fabulous write for sure, Floyd. Sad and funny toe-tappers are the absolute best.

And the band is fabulous as well. That's about as good as it get with BiaB, and to my ears it has all the right elements in all the right places. Brent sounds right at home, too. Superb vocals, world-weary but strong. Nicely nuanced all the way around.

Best of luck with the album! You should be more widely listened to, and getting your stuff out there is of course a prerequisite.

Know this song will stick with me for a while.

Morning, floyd!

In this day of AI all over the place helping people write songs, or people using AI to write a song that they claim is their own work (and I'm not buying the argument that it's the same as collaborating with another person) it's really refreshing to read a lyric like:

"I gave away your cds and your yoga mat
after all what would i do with something like that"

I can't imagine an AI ever coming up with a line like that!

Brilliant as usual songwriting, performance, and production. I read your comment about the remix/master of this 10 year old song. I've often thought of that myself; going back to some of the old songs that Chris and I have done, we started 10 years ago, remix and master with my modern tools (and slightly better skills wink , and maybe do a best of CD. One of these days!

Excellent song, enjoyed very much.

Looking forward to hearing the CD once it's ready!

Hi Floyd!
Well, if there’s a song that epitomises everything working together, this would be it. For some reason, I found something very appealing in the sung melody of the line ‘tell me if you can what do i do’ - it just sets up the final line so well.
If it was on Soundcloud, I’d add it to my ‘Andrew’s favourite BIAB songwriters’ playlist.
I’m going back for another listen.

Wow, this is excellent...loved everything about it...the lyric is so clever and pro-level, I'm always so impressed with your creativity and production Floyd.
I have a "someday I'll get to this" lyric idea that I called "Tell me about Lucille"...essentially the same story as yours, except from the new wife's standpoint.
Great idea, wonderful track!

Floyd, I remember that song.

The remix/remaster sounds good.

Excellent use of the real tracks.

What else can be said but to answer the question about what can you do about the "I love Tammy tattoo"? Get it covered by a good tattoo artist with something big and bold and not so committed.

Man, I love this idea of an album. In fact, I have many of your songs together for traveling music, and I'll be travelling with ya in just a couple hours.

Floyd, another brilliant write. And you're right, Brent adds the right touch. You are far and away my favorite country singer. Excellent mix, wonderfully amusing lyrics, and a great band to present it. Herb has a good suggestion, but maybe you can just find another Tammy.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hi, floyd jane.

It sounds great - a lot more punch! The crunchy guitar is now more up front. All the guitars seem a bit louder and "in your face". But the vocals are clear in the center, so it works for me.

And Brent does come through, but now Ray's got me wondering what you on lead guitar would sound like. 👍

Of course, that would take you away from the main mission of creating an album. But maybe later... laugh

Superb song all around! Brilliant lyrics and vocals, plus the whole mix and production. The old version is only a little bit less good.

Floyd,

Love the rock beat to this one . . . clever lyrics to go with, great hook. And all your usual stellar production. Terrific mix; love that panned electric rhythm guitar on the right; subtle but just in the right place. Good stuff, Floyd!!

After initially misreading "tummy tattoo" and then googling "tammy" (part of a star constellation),
I finally figured out what your song is actually about whistle
This is a rock song.
A great rock song.
Probably the best I've heard for quite some time, Floyd.

Ex.cel.lent.

You've obviously improved a lot over the past 10 years (yep, I listened to both versions as I wasn't around 10 years ago).
There is absolutely nothing not to like about it.

I would place it as the first song on the album, because after hearing this song, I would definitely want to listen to the entire album.

Honestly Floyd, I'm not exactly young anymore and I've listened to quite a few American and English bands, and I think you have a fantastic voice, powerful and very accurate. This song showcases your voice beautifully, and I wish you all the success you deserve. It's always a pleasure to hear you.

Some of the cleverest lyrics I've seen. The verses so expertly set up the clincher chorus. And fun.

Thanks a bunch, Rob. Much appreciated.

There is actually a LOT of good Country these days. Just not "on the radio".
No, it is not all Jones and Jennings (but it hasn't been for 50 years).
The "flavors" of Country have exploded. And much of it is excellent.
I've "kept up", and heard most of the major releases over the last 5 years....it's a big umbrella now - with a lot of interesting stuff going on.

(funny thing is, though, since I've been playing guitar and bass - past year - I'm listening to Classic Rock - smile - I missed most of that the first time around...)

Can you share some names, Floyd? The last time I listened to country on the radio I heard a song using the T-Pain effect. I had to switch stations immediately. I admit I am stuck somewhere in the WIllie and Hank Sr. gulch.

Excellent song, performance, and production. Dig all of those guitars driving this track. The remaster sounds great. Yeah, Brent is the 'the man,' but you're pretty dang good yourself.

Hey Floyd,

Good luck with your album! This song is a very good choice for it, nice rocker with clever lyrics, catchy chorus and strong vocals. LOTS of guitars - and they work together like a live rock band.

I think doing yoga would make you forget the tattoo (and suffering) laugh

We like the remastered version - it sounds brighter or has more pop or whatever the proper term is. smile
Thoughtful mastering can accomplish so much … we enjoy going back also.

The imagery throughout the home was very vivid.
When these lines came we both smiled at the thought of the yarn all over the place!
“whatever that was in your crochet bin, one night I unraveled till I reached the end”

Masterful use of the BiaB Wrecking Crew and, yep, that Brent guy nailed it.
And, needless to say your vocal is outstanding. Then and now.

Enjoyed it and we look forward to the vanity album!

It is definitely worth taking a look at older mixes and mastering.
The original mastering was done in Ozone 5 - typically starting with a favorite preset and then some tweaking.
It was a real surprise how different the output from Ozone 11 was...

It seems that I remember this one! Great songs like this stick in the mind for a while! Boy, you sure did dial in a super sound on this "Album" ready and worthy tune!
Your superior vocal talent really shines on this as well as the tasteful use of background vocals!
You never cease to inspire and amaze this old wanna be singer-songwriter!

The charm of your songwriting and vocals is explosive.
It's a very powerful rock song.
The lyrics are easy to understand and really capture the heart.

Hi Floyd

Man, this track’s got attitude. You can feel the heart in the lyrics — that tattoo line? Killer. Raw, funny, real. You went through the breakup purge: clothes, mugs, CDs, even the damn crochet yarn — we’ve all been there. But that ink? Nah, that’s forever. Great storytelling.

Love the energy — uptempo, punchy, and your vocal’s solid. Yeah, it’s got that classic vibe which don’t go outta style. And props for the LCR panning setup — really opens up the mix, gives each guitar its own space. Feels wide, alive, like you’re in the room with the band.

BIAB might be your engine, but you’re drivin’ this one with purpose. Only nit? Fade-outs still feel like dodgin’ the final chord… but hey, just me being overly salty.

Yet another great song Floyd. You’ve got a voice, a story, and the chops to back it up. Always good to hear your sound on the feed.

best regards

Izzy

Temporary country at its best.
Loved it.

Very witty, Floyd. I often wonder what people do with tattoos of old boy/girl friends. Loved the fact that you worked in the line about the yoga mat. The song makes me wanna dance. Love you voice, man. So good.

Thanks, Noel. I have to tell ya...I really miss your presence (on a regular basis) here in the Showcase. Remember those days when there were only about 7 or 8 of us hanging out here? Good that it "exploded", of course. But also good that there are some good people who have been constants through all the comings-and-goings....

Excellent song, performance, and production. Dig all of those guitars driving this track. The remaster sounds great. Yeah, Brent is the 'the man,' but you're pretty dang good yourself.

Good luck with your project.

Thanks, Scott. Good to see ya back around...been a while....

Your songs have been making me smile and tap my toes for a mighty long time now and I appreciate all the great songs and all the good times listening to them, and watching you pop these things out.

There's a lot of great music going on around this forum these days!

Happy holidays man!

Thanks, David. Same to ya.

I think doing yoga would make you forget the tattoo (and suffering) laugh

Thanks, Janne...my wife was a yoga instructor and built & owned a yoga studio for 12 years (then sold it). I hate doing yoga....

Izzy - thanks for the nice comments.
In this case, I thought a long fade was just-the-right-thing - like a tattoo.... smile
