I can and do run the same software applications on at least the last 15-20 years of Intel hardware and Microsoft operating systems (not a plug, just a fact).

I continue to be amazed at the number of questions from users who find out that they need a computer / O/S upgrade to keep working. Apple magic? Yes.

(And don't jump on me, I use and develop software for Macs, iPhones and more, but by comparison, if you look closely, it's a carefully constructed and orchestrated minefield. Apple have mastered it.)

When you post nonsense, someone should jump on you.

Apple has made the decision to stay with the best performing tech—and it isn't being made by Intel anymore. We who buy it vote with our pocketbooks. Sometimes these changes were necessary—the PPC consortium could not build a fast enough chip that remained cool (the last G5s were liquid cooled heat pumps) and Intel could for the next 15 years and then they couldn't compete with ARM.

You also ignores the fact that, unlike the macOS (even 8.01), Microsoft has released versions of Windows that can best be described as spectacular failures — and they might do it again.
I think I know what's coming in Windows 12, and you're not going to like it

Apple has never done that on the Mac. The Newton and a few other projects failed miserably but none were the macOS.

Apple has only one obligation and that's to their shareholders (Dodge Brothers v. Chrysler). So does Microsoft. Both companies are doing quite well at the moment.

I'm not one of those who couldn't be paid to use Windows. I can and have made a very good living over the years. I also showed my last employer how much better the macOS was for our jobs and why most of us were no longer using our company issued Win stations anymore.

I gave away my last Windows machine during the pandemic. Now that I'm retired from all day jobs, you couldn't give me one.
