I always thought that freezing is similar to "locking" the track.
By logic, you unfreeze>edit>freeze>listen., repeat the cycle. Cerio, the question you raised is a good one.

P.S. In a Chord Track for example, you have an option to "preserve" note range from regeneration. These are done mainly for Key Switches. I know it is different, this was an addon feature that was implemented to get BIAB more open to VST3 instruments. I can totally see the convenience of being able to edit frozen track, without constant freezing & unfreezing. We need Andrew or someone from PGM to explain if it's a bug or by design.
