For sure some, but likely not all, of the styles released each year use features that are unique to that release. Sometimes RealTracks also use new release features.

I doubt if PG Music tests RealTracks and styles against prior year releases since there are just too many releases to test against. At one release a year PG Music would need to test against more than at least 18 Windows releases to verify compatibility since the earliest release listed on the RealTracks page is 2008.5. Note PG Music use to have new releases twice a year prior to also having a Macintosh release.
