We'll Never Know Why on Soundcloud
We'll Never Know Why on YouTube

A song perhaps about perpetual ignorance, but also about asking the right questions.

I was preparing to post a different song, but just got a YT notification that Andrew posted one called “That Was The Reason Why.”

Style is _BTGSHUF.STY (Baritone Guitar Blues Shuffle)

RealTracks in style: ~673:Organ, B3, Background Blues BB Ev 085
RealTracks in style: 2624:Guitar, Baritone Electric, Rhythm
RealTracks in song: 2886:Guitar, Acoustic, Rhythm FolkBluesSlowShuffleBrent Sw 085
RealTracks in song: 2361:Piano, ElectricVintage, Rhythm MotownSlowBluesy12-8John Sw 085
EZDrummer
Dave Bell of Blue Attitude played guitar and I played bass and sang.

We'll Never Know Why

Once when I was young I noticed there was time to spare.
I realize my youth is done, so I shoot Time a flare.
And yet it still flys right on by. We'll never know why.

As I aged I grew to care so little for so much,
and so much for so little. You held me in love's clutch.
There's all that time I let slip by. We'll never know why.

If we concentrate upon the here and now,
the where and when would stand aside.
If we live without the if and how,
we wouldn't question why.

Time and space aren't real.
There's spaceless time of timeless space.
We know that time has no appeal
without some space for pace.
If all the rules of life apply, we'll never know why.

Marty,

This song has such a great pace and slow-burn...

Your vocal is so good. Full of emotional and great phrasing. Love your bass and Dave's guitar. His playing perfectly matches the intensity of your performance.

Everything about this is just SO GOOD!

Good one Marty!
Was the tempo of 85 BPM an attempt to slow down the passing of time? smile I’ve lived life with so much time ahead of me, but now it is a finite resource.
I have always thought that time travels at two speeds simultaneously - in one sense, time drags on through the mundane things or while we’re waiting for something; in another, time whizzes by and we’re left clutching our memories like rosary beads.

Hey, Marty! You and Dave have certainly created a signature sound. That guitar and bass support your (very cool) vocals perfectly, and the rest of the band is in exactly the right place at the right time. Nicely mixed, too. A very slinky and cohesive sound. Way cool.

Now excuse me, I need to go shoot Time a flare...

That loping tempo is hypnotizing, and the lyrics cause one to pause. Love the vocal and how you draw out certain words. This one stayed with me in a strange way: it kind of sat down for a beer and made friends with my brain. Very good work, sir!

Hi Marty

Yeah, nicely sung, played and written. And Mr.Bell giving it the Joe Bonamassa treatment was terrific.

Kind regards

Great work, as always, Marty! Thoroughly enjoyed it, and I esp liked the pace and steady walk of the overall feel.

Hi, Marty.

Although the vocal is forlorn, it still sounds like you and Dave are having a good time with those blues. smile

Marty and Dave, this is an outstanding blues song that I really can relate.
Both of your chops are top shelf
Marty your vocal was fantastic.
Great mix.
Loved it

PS - I was going to shoot a flair but I can't remember where I put my flair gun confused

Marty,
this is tres, tres bon.
I do think the vocal in the 1st few lines could come up & make their mark a little harder but the blend still sounds great.
Those little bits of extra percussion are interesting without distracting.
Dave does what Dave does - oh se well.
I dig the bass lines and tone.
The voice - is choice.
Excellent.

Cheers

Superb song! Can't say "particularly lyrically" as all of the aspects are in perfect balance.
"Waoist Adage #41: Here and now are our parameters in space and time for experiential reality." Future and past can only ever be conceptual.
Interestingly, some scientists say that time isn't a dimension; plus a sage I once knew a long time ago said 'time' is the experience of eventuality. We witness sequences of events - 'time' flying by - yet we always view it in the cockpit of here and now. Yep, if we lived here and now, always in presence, we wouldn't need the answer/s as we'd be living it/them.

Some favourite Waoist Adages:
#1: Play on the Way.
#13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you.
#58: Bring consciousness to it.
#63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made.
#92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

Excellent song, Marty, I fell in love with the feel of this one right from the start.

Thanks to everyone that mentioned my bit, always good to know that some people actually like the guitar enough to mention it eek

Nope. Dave (Blue Attitude) just did one at 49BPM, so this one is crazy fast. Time is an invention of man, and Albert proved its relativity. I used to clutch my memories, but now... what was I saying?

Thanks, Ron. We DO have fun, and we're glad you like it. Sadly, I must inform you that Time doesn't give a hoot.

Nice Bass!

Dave sounds great (like Dave).

Your vocal on this is extra good.

And a good write.
"I realize my youth is done, so I shoot Time a flare."
"As I aged I grew to care so little for so much..."
Worth the price of admission.
But this:
"If we concentrate upon the here and now,
the where and when would stand aside.
If we live without the if and how,
we wouldn't question why."
...really puts it over the top.

Thanks, Bob. Mr. Mesmer would not differ with that loping part. Thanks again, Bob. You and your brain would (and does) get along well with mine.

Thanks so much for those kind words, Lee. I don't think you could've pleased Dave more, nor could you have hit just the right nail so squarly on the head with that Joe B. comparsion.

Marty,

You and Dave do these type of tunes so well together . . . another great collaboration that starts with a killer write, continues with a cool, cool vibe, and highlighted by all those slick Dave Bell licks. Another gem!!

My best to you both,

Deej

I woke up this morning and this song was playing in my mind, so it must have an important message to me, I'm trying to figure out why, although I know I'll never know laugh

"Time and space aren't real./There's spaceless time of timeless space." very philosophical thinking and I truly appreciate your vision on the rules of life smile

Exciting bluesy chord progression and Dave's presence amplifies the mysterious mood around "Why". That percussion rhythm was also an exciting addition. Great bassline and one of your best vocal performances, full of emotion and immersion.

Time is not slipping by when I listen to this masterpiece, it is here and now.

Super great video also, you are a true visionary.

Janne

Thanks, Ray. You know how I am about ducking my vocals behind the band. Ha... we sorta share that. Thanks for mentioning the percussion sounds not being distracting. I basically make the whole drum/percussion tracks from scratch in EZD, and spend a lot of time making sure I'm not using more than 4 limbs per kit, and that the perc stuff only complements the whole.
