I don't know but I think you are making a good assumption considering that the Android app is part of the 2026 release.
I uninstalled the app and received a fresh download and install. I didn't receive a request for a serial number nor can I find a place to enter a serial number.
I'm wondering if the app is looking at the PG Music server to verify if you have a 2026 download account.
