operator error - time signature was set to 2/2 - no idea why. 4/4 showed notes immediately I've had that type of quirk in the past in BiaB, where the MIDI (*) file has an anacfusis, BiaB apparently taking the timing from the first ar and then using it throughout. I though it had been fixed, but I could very well be mistaken. (*) Edit ... it was XML, not midi, though may be the same issue.
