Hello all,
I just encountered a problem I’ve never seen before and wondered if anyone might have some thoughts on a possible solution.
I am a private lesson teacher and have had many students purchase and use BIAB over the years. I email them BIAB files I want them to play along with. It has always gone fine until today.
I have a web cam student about 100 miles away that has the same version BIAB as me, 2010.5 (304). She can play files she has made, but any I email dont play. The cursor moves, but no sound. While I do have real tracks and she doesn’t, I am emailing her files with styles she has, no real tracks.
She has tried taking a file I emailed and using it with a style she chooses and same result. She can see the cursor move, but no sound. While the cursor is moving, she can hit a note on the Piano keyboard display of BIAB and it sounds.
Any thoughts???

Is she a new student or has she been able to play these in the past from you? I just emailed a file from my regular email to my gmail account that then fwds it to my regular mail and it played fine.

Hello,
With the song open, I would ask her to click on the Styles drop-down menu (at the very top of the Band-in-a-Box screen), and make sure that "Style is Enabled" is checked.

Is the person using the same synth and settings as you?
HP Win 11 12 gig ram, Mac mini Sonoma with 16 gig of ram, BiaB/RB 2026, Reaper 7, Harrison Mixbus 11 , Presonus Audiobox USB96

Thanks all for the replys.
John, this student is a new BiaB user, just installed the program. She can't get any file I've emailed her to work. I've emailed hundreds of files to other students and friends in the past, no problem.
Kent, she did what you suggested, nothing changes. Still cant play the file.
Rachael, all files I've emailed her work for me and other friends I've emailed. Just wont play on her system alone.
Rob, neither of us is using an external synth, just the soundcard in our computers.
I had her email me a Biab file. It worked fine on my machine. She just can't get any file I email her to work.
Any other thoughts?

Couple of other things that may be in play here:
1) I am using BiaB with XP, she is using Windows 7. Maybe driver issue?
2) She is a yong teenage student in a house with younger kids. i know the parents have heavy filters on the kids email addresses. She has to jump through many hoops to download and save any attachments. Think there might be something there?

If she can play songs created on her system, it should not be a driver issue. Are you both using the same synth? GM patches?

Just one simple option: Mail one of those files to someone else, maybe even me, I'm using Win7.
I once had the problem that I had sound only on midi files, all biab files were silent. I just don't remember what I did.

I don't think the process of emailing the song would have done that, there's something else going on.
If emailing the file had changed it in any way, it likely would have just become corrupted, and she would have seen an error message when she tried to play the song.
