As for solid bodies: you've got ' em just the way I like them  As for the rest.... Well, the only acoustic guitars I have are my first ever guitar: an Eko (27-year old, very cheap, use-once and-throw-away-) Spanish guitar (but somehow stringed with STEEL strings ????) And I have an Ovation CC48. That one plays like a charm! The Ovation and the Fender are my best-loved guitars.

Yes, these two guitars have their own distinct sound and most if not all guitar players will be able to recognise a Fender from a Gibson. Not only by the sound, but by the style of music. You can even do it from memory: Robert Cray plays a ...... (superior piece of craftmanship starting with an F) and Gary Moore plays a .... (piece of 2nd choise driftwood starting with a G.... )
Yeah, I'm in the Fender camp. I own an American built Strat and love that guitar. Someday I hope to be able to add a USA-built Telecaster to my collection. But I shure can apreciate the sound of a Gibson LP.
What I wanted to say is that these guitars are not distinguishable (is that a real word ?) in quality. It's just personal taste that drives a person to buy either one of these guitars.

I currently have a Squier Strat. The best guitar I ever had, IMO, was a ’72 Telecaster Thinline Hollow Body. It was stolen back in the 70s. Couldn't afford another one at the time so I bought a strat. Sold all my equipment in the 90s and swore off.
A few years later I thought, ummmm, so I bought the Squier Strat for around the house. If I ever buy again it will be the tele.
Haven't played enough acoustic guitars to even know what is or isn't good. Have an Alvarez acoustic that I rarely pick up.

For electrics, to me it's hard to beat the shape of a strat. Something about it just fits. I'd wager half the electric guitars ever made were strats (shapewise, not necessarily Fenders).
But I play a Les Paul a lot too.

I'm not much of a guitar player, so I didn't give my list, but I have been reading along..

Regarding Tanglewood, rharv thanks for giving that brand name a mention. I gave my guitar tech free rein to set my Tanglewood up for me. He replaced the nut with a thicker harder "tusk" material and slotted the nut so the nut groove followed the string angle back to the posts. He also replaced the bridge with the same material and also lowered it a bit, and also made the bridge wider so he could compensate the strings for better intonation. He also increased the rear bridge take off angle of the high E and B strings as they seemed a little weak on electric. He dressed the frets and rolled the fingerboard edge, rolling a bit more on the thumb side. I replaced the Fishman piezo pickup with a LR Baggs transducer (thanks for the suggestion Mac). Sorry to be "so long printed" guys but I've ended up with one heck of an acoustic guitar for the price. DennisD

Me again, thanks to bob, matt, and rharv I was finally able to post an avatar. The guitar I am using in the picture is my Tanglewood. I had a consulting job in Edmonton Alberta for 9 months two years back so I was able to do a number of coffee house gigs while I was there. I got a nice byline and photo as a new guy on the scene and the photographer was nice enough to give me copies of all the photos he took of me during one of the gigs.I also used the Tanglewood as a second guitar in the local production of "Oaklahoma" where I was part of the pit ochestra. I say a great guitar.DennisD
