Enjoyed another Bonamassa concert last night, broadcast on PBS.
Never saw this one before:

filmed at the Hollywood Bowl

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Joe Bonamassa is a great example of someone who carved out his own place in the music business and mostly did it the way he wanted, on his terms. He's never had a "HIT" song on the radio. I can't say I've ever heard a single JB song on the radio. Not mainstream radio. His songs just don't fit the formula I guess. In spite of that, several of his studio albums have hit #1 on the sales charts while not having anything on the radio. Those #1 albums hit #1 based on sales figures. With a faithful following, he is able to tour to sold out crowds. And again, without radio hits to support the tours.
His band has the cream of the crop players in it. The best of the best.

He's actually coming to a local venue (35miles or so away) in the new year. His ticket prices are priced on the high side. I'm sure it'll be a good show.

Go to YouTube and search Joe Bonamassa full concert and you'll find several really good shows.

We think his concert (released 2016) at the Greek Theater sets a hugely high bar for blues rock.
We watch artists every night on YouTube and this has been our fav for years.
The Australian ladies are superb as is Reese on keys.
And the audio and video editing is as good as it gets.
And then there's Joe with his amazing playing on some amazing axes including an original Flying V.

I've been a fan for many years, own all his concert DVD's and have seen him live three times. Last time was at Telluride, Colorado, last year, he headlined the three day blues fest they have every year, and we bumped into him and Josh Smith (also an amazing guitarist) while heading back to the venue after lunch:

Thanks, Dan!

He was recently in Cork, Ireland where he did a tribute concert to the late, great, Rory Gallagher. Lots of film crew there apparently, so hopefully that will be released at some point too, from the few clips I've seen it was pretty good.

I recently shared my first bass recording of a Bonamassa song and it occurred to me that like Mozart, he must have completed his "10,000 hours" very early in life. Here he is at the tender age of 12.

This kid could shred!

Coincidentally I just watched an interview with Joe last night, and one of the things he was asked about was the 10,000 hours thing. He figured by the time he turned pro at age 12 he had around 8,000 hours under his belt.

Interview is well worth watching if you are a fan:

Thanks for sharing those vids guys, I hadn't seen them. I'd forgotten about his collab with Beth Hart; what a duo.
And Joe BonaMonster? I love it.
Maybe there is something to this 10,000 hr thing; at the minimum, it seems one has to pay their dues if success is desired, and even then no guarantees.
