I installed it on the D drive
D://BB

But now I want to move it to the E drive
E://BB

What steps do I need to take?
Is there a better way in BIAB 2026?

If it's on the same computer, just copy all the files from D:\bb to E:\bb. The files that need to be installed into Windows for smooth running will still all be installed so everything is set to go. Since it will be on the same computer, your licence is will keep on working as it depends on the computer and not the location. Once the files are copied and you are happy that the system runs fine are a week or so of testing, delete D:\bb and its contents.

All of BIAB's content is on drive D, not drive C, right? Therefore, you can copy it to any other drive on the same computer for use.

After you've moved the files to the E: drive, you'll need to tell BiaB that you've moved them, or it will keep using the D: drive. RealTracks and RealDrums can be set fro Preferences, but I can't for the moment remember where one sets the location of /bb. One option would be to rename it to old-bb or some such, to force BiaB to ask. Actually I personally would do that anyway, just to ensure that it's not using anything from the old drive.

Just delete the desktop shortcut, right-click on E:\bb\bbw64.exe (on the new drive), and select 'Send to Desktop (create shortcut)'

The new desktop shortcut will launch BIAB from the new drive.

Yes. If all your Realtracks and Realdrums are copied to the E: drive, there is no need to specify their location because by default, BIAB looks for Realtracks in the \bb\Realtracks folder and Realdrums in the \bb\Drums folder.

Once you've copied everything over to the E: drive, if you can also rename d:\bb to something like d:\bb.old. This will stop the program from identifying d:\bb as the home directory. I've copied \bb\ between drives a number of times over the years without any issue.

That's neat, though I notice I don't have that option on my Win11 machine.

I do have "Pin to Start", which would be my personal choice. I also have the option of creating a link, which could then be dragged to the desktop.

You might still have it in Windows 11 I believe.

That "show more options" is high on the list of the absolutely most frustrating and aggravating things when migrating from an earlier Windows version or doing a fresh Win install.

This is one of the very first things that I do:

Reading through the notes in that post, I learned that you can use <Shift>right-click to launch the classic menu. That's a handy shortcut to know also.

Indeed I do. I wonder why MS put is so far down into the options, bearing in mind that so many people do put so much on their desktop.

FWIW, as an engineer, I usually have so much stuff that the desktop ends up being an unnavigable nightmare, which is why I have it empty and use heirarchical access by menu or file location. I seem to have to fight MS and so many applications producers who think dozens and dozens of desktop icons are OK. frown Thankfully they can just be deleted. MS's alternative is usually alphabetic, where I'd much rather have them organised by context.

Hi John,

I also use Stardock Fences and enjoy the organisation it brings -then a quick double-click and you have an empty desktop. Another double click brings everything back...
