Here's a project I did at the beginning of the summer.

It's all RT's except for a couple rythm guitar tracks and the guitar solo. Oh yea there's the guitar twin part with the sax, on the intro riff. It's kinda funny that the twin part came about because It was the first time I used a pause for the RT's and it was just SO silent that I had to have something ringing into the pause... hence the sustain note on the guitar twin part. I think it worked pretty well.

I wrote this song when I was in high school... This was during my Maj7th Phase. I was probably listening to alot of America & Bread.

Anyway, hope you enjoy and as always all comments welcome,

Greg

Take Me

1978
C. Greg Achord

TEMPO:108

I FOUND HER CRYIN IN THE MIDDLE OF A SUMMER DAY
AND I WAS WALKIN ALONG JUST TO PASS THE TIME AWAY
WELL THERE SHE STOOD ALL BY HERSELF
A FEELING OF LONELINESS WELL IT TOUCHED MY HEART AS OUR EYES THEY MET
SHE CRIED

TAKE ME I'M LIKE THE LEAVES IN AN AUTUMN BREEZE
FOREVER WANDERING IN SEARCH OF SOMEONE TO PLEASE
SO WON'T YOU
TAKE ME I'M LIKE A LOST MOURNING DOVE
FOREVER WANTING AND NEEDING SOMEONE TO LOVE (ME)

AND I TOLD HER DARLIN YOU'VE GOT TO TRUST IN YOURSELF CAUSE LIFE HAS GIVEN YOU
A CHANCE TO FIND WHAT YOU ALWAYS KNEW
TRUE LOVE IS FOREVER
SHE SAID I'LL NEED YOU THERE TO HELP ME THROUGH
SHE CRIED

TAKE ME I'M LIKE THE LEAVES IN AN AUTUMN BREEZE
FOREVER WANDERING IN SEARCH OF SOMEONE TO PLEASE
SO WON'T YOU
TAKE ME I'M LIKE A LOST MOURNING DOVE
FOREVER WANTING AND NEEDING SOMEONE TO LOVE (ME)

Hi Greg,

I really like the music and arrangement of this song. To my ears it sounded like jazz-meets-pop/rock and it appealed. Nice job.

All the best,
Noel

Did you accomplish the sax harmony by running a real track solo through a harmonizer? If so, cool idea!

I like the song Greg... there's something about your compositions that appeals to my musical sensibilities. Maybe its a case of musical taste being forged by the songs we grew up with in the 70s.

Maj7th's NEVER go out of style man! Like this a lot. I can sympathise with the silent rests. I'm still having some issues getting that kind of musical stuff to sound natural. I think there's still some tweaking needed on PG's part when it comes to rests and holds. It's all kind of stiff and unnatural sounding still. So, little tricks and inclusions helps the ear along so you don't get stuck on it. I find that some well placed cymbals can help in those spots too. This is some noce writing Greg. The more I hear from you, the more well rounded your writing seems to be. Keep up the great work!

Pat,

No I didn't. After I had generated the sax part, I just figured out a harmony part and played it on my guitar. So the sax harmony is a guitar part.

Thanks for the listen & your nice comments.

Dan,

Thanks for the compliment. I very much appreciate it... Especially coming from you!
The more I hear from you, the more I admire your writing & producing skills! So Thanks!

Great idea to put some cymbal crashes in the rests & holds, I'll have to try that.
I do think the rests, pauses and holds have improved (some) in the program upgrades since I did this song, so hopefully they'll continue to get better.

Take care,

Greg

PS Of course I agree... Maj7th's NEVER GO OUT OF STYLE!

Btw greg, I forgot to mention that besides the well written tune, you have a very good vocal quality. How are you doing your harmonies? You better not be using a harmonizer Greg! You can sign man- gadgets not needed there. But you have a distinct vocal quality that gets noticed. Excellent job there.

Thanks Dan! I like your voice too... Very smooth, warm tone. Your harmonies are excellent too!

I have a very happenin' vibrato thing with my voice, (somewhere between Cher & Johnny Mathis) that I've worked for years to get control over... It's an ongoing process.

I do sing all my harmony parts as well... Sometimes a very frustrating process, especially when it's a part below the melody, above the melody is generally not a problem. I always envied those people that could just whip out any harmony part in a song with no problem. (Your not one of those are ya?)
I do have the TC Helicon thing in BIAB, but I could never get the damn thing to work very well anyway!

Thanks again,

Greg

Greg,

The most impressive part of this song is the amazingly professional production values, even the "sheen" if you will, that you're getting from this consumer piece of software. Are you using the audiofile Real Tracks? Would you be interested in producing some tracks for me? I am serious. I have a music company and I could use your kind of production and engineering talent.

Jeff,

Hey man, thanks for the compliment.

I've only been using this software since Jan. 2010. About 6 months when I did this song and I continue to be impressed with the possibilities it has to offer, (as are many other's on this forum) especially for songwriter, singer, musicians such as myself who could never afford to record their songs in a commercial studio. The RT's and RD's make this an incredible tool!

I believe I have all the RT's, but they are not the audiofile version.

Absolutely I'd be interested! IM me or email me at achordmusic@bresnan.net.

Thanks Again,

Greg
