Hi everyone,
I’m currently working on a voiceover project and could use some guidance. The project involves narrating a short series of educational videos, and I want to ensure my delivery is engaging, clear, and professional.
I’m particularly unsure about pacing, tone, and microphone setup. Has anyone here completed similar projects? What tools, software, or techniques did you find most effective for recording and editing?
Also, any tips on maintaining consistent energy and clarity across multiple sessions would be greatly appreciated.
Looking forward to hearing your experiences and recommendations!

Looking forward to hearing your experiences and recommendations! Consistency is on the performer, but to try to help, I would play a few minutes of the last session so they could 'get back into character' before starting the next segment if there had been a significant break. I've only done a few of these as a paying job, so not professing to be a pro, just tryin' to help. It doesn't take a lot more than that (and no distractions!). As far as equipment; a decent LCD mic with a good preamp and any recording software. Just my 1.5 cents on it (after taxes)

The 'no distractions' part was a serious suggestion, as was letting them hear where they left off. Focus is important in narration for the performer; ain't easy. Especially for someone new to it. I couldn't do it. I mean I can record it, but 'performing' narration? Nope, I would not excel.

Are you the producer, who auditions and approves the talent, or are you thinking about going into this as an independent contractor for hire?

Have you thought of using AI for this? There are loads of tools that you can feed a script and it will generate the voice over. You can even feed it an MP3 of your own voice and it will generate the voice over in your own voice. Heygen is one such tool.
Saves a lot of effort and stress😀

Saves a lot of effort and stress😀 The problem with AI voiceover is that it isn’t very good yet. Not one app sounds natural and I own a few including the latest one that promises “emotional” voices. All mispronounce certain words and pause on Oxford commas. All of my recent VO gigs were obtained after the client tried AI. Though I personally detest Oxford commas (as does Oxford), I love it when producers use them then try AI.

Hi Mike. I think they do take a bit of getting used to but this video I recently made with heygen, an mp3 of my own voice and selfie is a million times better than what I could have done myself. Personally I don’t care much whether people “know” it is AI or not. It does the job (in my opinion anyway) quickly, easily and with no stress. https://youtube.com/shorts/h6Rw9VmnFPg?si=YwtSmLkG5_wZZ96x

The problem with AI voiceover is that it isn’t very good yet. Not one app sounds natural... Could it be that there are others that you haven't explored yet? Highly unlikely. The latest and (no so) greatest is Revoicer, purchased a few days ago. I have clients who pay me to make AI demos, music and voice — with the full knowledge that it's AI so that the glitches and mispronunciations are overlooked. Good for songwriter and commercial demos and the like and it does save money while proving concept. VO professionals are not going away just yet. AI is still not good enough. Listen to a book narrated by an AI voice—see how long you last. Personally I don’t care much whether people “know” it is AI or not. I need to care. My voice is one of those things I posess that pays the bills.

Interested in what you went with if you don't mind sharing.
If still looking, I can give a few lists that range from barebones but excellent to really-people pay this kind of money? with good reasons for my recommendations. My VO setups have changed over the decades but the current one is priced on the low side of midrange and I am very happy with it.
