hi,
I am new and want to start with BIAB (to be used as a companion for practicing jazz piano intermediate level). I have a couple macbook pros at home. I see three options and am interested in your opinion.

1) wait for 2026 mac version (if I understand that's 6 months).
2) get 2025 now and upgrade in 6 months (if necessary at all).
3) get a windows machine and start with 2026 now (this only if you think the windows product is better anyway)

thanks in advance.

Hi Stephan,
Firstly, extending a very big welcome

I'll do my best to answer, no guarantees though:
1: 2026 Mac version is likely to be 6 months away.
2: If you get 2025 now, will it be for Mac or Windows (Mac, presumably, as you already have Mac)
3: Go for Windows now and be able to start using all the new amazing features until the Mac version is released (+6 months?)

If you are comfortable with Windows (some Mac users aren't and keep needing to remind us smile ), then go with Windows 2026, as it's very likely that the 2026 Mac version will be nearly identical, and you'll already be that far ahead.

thanks for your opinion.

if the mac version and windows version are in fact neerly identical then I prefer going for the mac version.
I don't think that 2026 will be so much improvement over 2025 anyway and I can upgrade in 6 months anyway.

others?

This is a good time to call PG's excellent customer service. I think there's a period when you can buy BIAB 2025 and upgrade to 2026 (probably July) pretty cheap if you've just had it for a few months.

They aren't in many ways. The biggest is that only Windows includes RealBand (a feature-limited DAW), formerly a stand-alone product. The reasoning was that Mac users have GarageBand and that is free. Although I would like to play with RB, can't say that I'm missing out by not having it.

Mac and Win licenses are not cross-platform. To change from one OS to the other, you will purchase a cross-grade license. If you have a license for one or the other, the price for upgrading to the next year will cost less.

There are other differences but these are the big ones.
