That is sooo good Mario,

I'm not a big fan of orchestral music, but even I can tell you've made an exceptional piece of music here. It must be a completely different process of writing compared to writing a pop song. How do you write that and hear all that in your head and get it down? And then know which instruments to bring in and out of the mix.

Your a very clever man, Andre Preview (M&W fans will understand)

Excellent, kind regards

  • The interplay of the brass and reeded instruments
  • The punctuation of the timpani
  • The glorious gong and cymbals at the end

A great piece which triggers imagery in one’s mind!

Thanx so much Andrew for this wonderful review. I'll check out that Ravel.

Thanx Lee listening and commenting on my song.

Sometimes the process is the same as a pop song. That is I come up with a lead line, lyrics in a song, then the chords and finally the instrumentation.

Sometimes in my instrumentals I figure out a chord progression then add the lead(s) and instrumentation. Many times the lead(s) and instruments come by trial and error. Other times I may have a phrase or two that can start a song.

In other words there is no set in stone method for my songs.

It reminded me of a film score. It's a beautiful piece of work. Well done.

Hi, Mario.

Interesting!

I assume the Solid State Strings are where the "shimmer" on the strings comes from.

Nice work on the brass.

The bit at 3:00 veers into a 1950's sci-fi theme, which is cool. smile

It would sound more orchestral if the instruments were all in a "orchestral room", with brass in the back for more reverb. But it wouldn't necessarily sound any better that way. wink

Thanx David. Yes that was the Solid State Strings. I like what they add to the other string programs that I have. That is a good point about the reverb and I'll try to remember to do that if/when I do another song like this one.

Hi Mario, I'm a bit late, but I finally had the time to listen to your masterpiece.
What a challenge that must have been!

I can picture you as the magnificent conductor directing a gigantic orchestra while it plays your piece!
Very, very beautiful.

I did have some doubts about the performance of this piece when I saw the instruments you'd chosen:
1- the French horns 1 & 2
2- the trumpet
3- the alto trombone
4- the violin
5- the viola
6- the bassoon
7- the oboe

Considering the space they're in, they could have gotten into a real fight (or competition). But—and here goes Master Mario—you managed to make them become friends and merge their sounds into your amazing work!
Well done, maestro!

Hans

Thanx so much Hans for this wonder review. Yes it was a challenge, especially since it was the first time I ever tried something like this. I'm glad you liked it.

Hi Mario.

Gosh! You really set out on a "Lord of the Rings" type of musical adventure with this creation. Well done! You've done a wonderful job and I enjoyed the journey. You are one of the forum's most imaginative and creative musicians. To me, it seems like you live and breathe music.

Loved it!
