Soundcloud: Revolution (2026 remix)
YouTube: Revolution (2023 mix) For a good couple of months, I've had in mind to post some 'heavier' songs - in a rock sense. This one is a remix, with another I am aiming to post in a week or so's time which is new and grunge-like.
DEVELOPMENTWritten in 2007 and recorded originally in 2008, the song is a bit 'angsty' which is unusual for me (e.g. 'Your angles are stuffed and your ankles are bound'). I have sometimes wondered if I am harbouring some pent-up aggression? However, I choose to think I intended it as a positive message about choosing a more generous way of changing the world. The lyrics ask the listener “Are you really sure you know what you will be called to do if you ask for a revolution?”
The first recorded version was a mixture of midi, my own guitars and singing and was what we would probably class as synth rock. It used the WOODSTK1 style.
It was a few years later that I realised, after listening to a playlist of classic Aussie rock, that the first line of the song (but nothing more) was similar to the first line of a well-known song, so I did some melodic re-wiring.
In 2023, I wanted to modernise the recording, so I replaced it with the _HIGHWAY Highway Driving Country Rock style, upped the key by a tone to Bm and added new bass and guitar work. I stylised the rhythm guitars on the strum and chord voicing used by Keith Richards and also The Dandy Warhols on ‘Bohemian Like You’.
In the latest Soundcloud mix, all instruments are played or sung by me, with exception of the drums and three guitars in the bridge from BIAB. The bridge got an overhaul with piano and acoustic dumped and new guitars added and swapping a Daug for a C#m7 in the bridge (I’m mellowing in my later years).

LYRICSINTRO
VERSE 1
You say it’s time for a revolution
But you ain’t prepared to put in the work
We all need some restitution
But I say you gotta deserve it first
CHORUS
When love ain’t enough, it’s taking you down
Respond off the cuff, don’t give in your ground
Don’t act like you’re tough, lose your angry frown
Your angle is stuffed, and your ankles are bound
VERSE 2
You believe you’ve got persecution
But you wouldn’t know the meaning of hurt
Are you prepared for the retribution
When your hands ain’t been in the dirt?
CHORUS
When love ain’t enough, it’s taking you down
Respond off the cuff, don’t give in your ground
Don’t act like you’re tough, lose your angry frown
Your angle is stuffed, and your ankles are bound
BRIDGE
We all need a means to be free and forgiven
But I don’t understand the feelings by which you are driven
VERSE 3
You say it’s time for a revolution
But I say you gotta deserve it first
CHORUS
When love ain’t enough, it’s taking you down
Respond off the cuff, don’t give in your ground
Don’t act like you’re tough, lose your angry frown
Your angle is stuffed, and your ankles are bound
Repeat and fade
