Izzy, cool song indeed. Love the open arrangement, your strong lead vocals and all the various backing vocals. Great use of BiaB and the rest of the band, too.

Happy New Year!

Great start for the year, more than a simple song. I truly enjoyed the Celtic feel in the melody (including the fiddle solo) and in the rhythm. Those drums added nice "stomping" especially in the chorus. Great lyrics, very strong images, my favourite part is "In the quiet of nights, when the stars start to glow/I gather the strength from the seeds that we sowed/The lessons of love, like the breeze in the trees/Life is a game with no guarantees".

The highlights are your emotional vocals, the perfectly executed backing vocals and the super catchy melody. Someone may say something about de-essing etc,, but I won't smile

Izzy, Izzy, Izzy! Simple song my backside!

I always love listening to your songs. You are an A1 songwriter and dare I say your songs have commercial appeal. The way you write lyrics and weave melody, vocals and instruments in and out of the mix, it just always takes the listener on a wonderful journey. And your vocals are always spot on, you have a great singing voice. I'm off for another listen…

Bravo Izzy,

Hi Izzy!
Good use of layering of instruments in this song - building up as the song develops, then stripping back, then bringing back in. The tension in the opening with just an acoustic guitar on the right side needed to be resolved with some accompaniment on the left, and you delivered to bring about the balance (release).
Good BVs also.
Andrew

I was pretty sure I had already commented on that - anyway.
I love the sparse arrangement, which leaves the singer plenty of space, which you use perfectly.
3/4 was a good choice, it gives the song a nice traditional touch.
Enjoyed my listen [Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]

Izzy, simple song my $#$!
An outstanding groove with some very professional layering of instruments - Brilliant
I really liked your vocal on this one.
Super lyrics
Loved it.

FWIW - instead of "BV's - Me, Myself & I + Melodyne" maybe you should have said "Me, Myself, & I and my good friend Mel Odyne wink

I start with a quote from Lee: Izzy, Izzy, Izzy! Simple song my backside!

Man, I love how this builds from (okay, let's say) a simple song into this incredible piece of music. Love the harmony, man. Did you use Melodyne to reach it? Man, it's all so well done. Very dynamic song. That drum beat pounds the meaning through the ears and to the heart. You have such a good voice with a good range --and a lot of feeling. My 2nd time through I notice even more cool little things you add in there.

Enjoy whatever happens!

I like that picking opening guitar. Is that you?
The vocal and strumming guitar works well in the opening.
Emotionally rich lyrics of longing for lost love that hits home for many. All expertly crafted.

Izzy,

Really enjoyed that. So organic.
Good write.
Nice use of BIAB. Nice guitar. Good (real) vocals and cool BGVs.
The builds were really effective.
Had a sorta Pete Seeger-ish-ness to it (the best of Pete)

Keep 'em coming. Please.

Hi Floyd
For me organic means the warts 'n'all that makes music more interesting.

Hi, Mssr. Seriass.

Love the intro. Great write:

And I hope you find peace in another man's arms
Where laughter rings true and won't cause any harm
No fire, no fight—just open sky
Where your name doesn’t ache when I say goodbye

Sounds like a classic. As others have said, "simple song" my posterior. Simple is the hardest write.

Did I mention that arrangement and vocals?

Great song, from start to abrupt false ending! smile

Hi Izzy,

I loved what I heard. The song's structure is truly amazing; simple yet captivating. And at one point, the harmony vocals and some instruments come in. And then they disappear again. At one point, I was worried your voice wouldn't cut it, but you always manage.
Yes, I loved it from the start. No special effects. Just you and the guitar, and then a bit more of that later. Amazing!

And then the lyrics. Man, they're so good; "The lessons of love, like the breeze in the trees. Life is a game with no guarantees," or "No fire, no fight—just an open sky. Where your name doesn't hurt when I say goodbye." I wish I could write those lines.
Again, beautiful, Izzy!

“In the quiet of nights, when the stars start to glow

I gather the strength from the seeds that we sowed

The lessons of love, like the breeze in the trees

So well stated.

Love the arrangement, the mix and the band.
Excellent mandolin.

We can hear the emotion in your fine vocal ... and it is very effective.
SOUL!

We like the take on heartbreak that shows the heartbroken.
But with a positive and kind feeling towards the heartbreaker.

Kudos!

Mr. David, Hans, Janice & Bud,

My heartfelt thanks for taking the time to listen and share your thoughts—your feedback, whether glowing or grounding, is always welcome and deeply appreciated. I soak up every word like a sponge, and your continued support is the quiet fuel behind my creative chaos.

Funny enough, I seem to get more encouragement from this wonderful corner of the internet than from my own family and friends, who often brace themselves with a dramatic, "Oh no... not another one." <sigh>

Cheers to kindred spirits and good ears,
Izzy
