Hi Bob.

My gosh! As David has said, this truly is a "compelling listen". Even here in Australia we are aware of Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg address. This is powerful and the backing is perfect. When the violin enters the arrangement, it mesmerises and captures the solemness and reverance of this whole musical experience. Every way I look at this, it is stunning.

Pardon the bounce ... we are late to the party smile

“The fence posts lean like they’re tired
A crow lifts without a sound
A chill that won’t explain itself
Settling into my coat
And the ground is holding
Everything it’s learned
Down in Gettysburg”

Wow, that is such powerful imagery.

Your song reminds us of the mournful feeling we got while visiting the Vicksburg Battlefield Cemetery years ago.
We wish we had experienced Gettysburg during our travel years.

The vocals, band and mix are standout.
(The fiddle solos had a slight hint of Battle Hymn in them for us)

Enjoyed it!

I am eating up your lyrical brilliance. You make the scene come alive with the imagery.
The instrumentation has the right touch of solemnity for the lyrics.

Bob,

One of the first things I noticed is there are no rhymes in the lyric. And I kind of like that - it colors a bit outside the lines ... and that's how music progresses. Two classic songs I can think of had no rhymes in the lyric: 1. Moonlight In Vermont - one of my all-time favorites. 2. Proud Mary. They did pretty good!

This classic you. Your unique voice and folky style work perfectly for you. Another masterpiece in song writing.

Take care, Alan

Hi Bob. (not with the same intonation Billy the Kid used back in the day) smile
I read up on Gettysburg and wrote a song about it about 15 years ago.
Mine was upbeat where yours is more reflective.
I liked this version. Stripped to the bone instrumentally. Nothing used that isn't needed. Typically R.S. DEAN.

Bob. It took me a while to find it.
I wrote it 13 years ago, before I knew about BIAB and the finer points of mixing. Apart from the drums I played the instruments myself.

Lovely song Robert.
My only nit would've been to warm the violin a little as it was as chill as the frost.

Cheers
