ASIO audio drivers can have limitations. Often ASIO drivers are single-client based which means that only one sound source can access them at a time. I suspect that this is what is happening.

When you open BIAB, that will be the sound source that first accesses ASIO. This can then then lock ASIO and make it unavailable to other sound sources (such as media player) accessing it. If WAS works fine, then use WAS. The final output of the sound is the same whichever driver you use, and both WAS and ASIO are low latency drivers. Latency becomes an issue if you record in BIAB. If you don't record in BIAB whether you use MME, WAS or ASIO will be fine. I use MME on my system.
