Try setting a new song up like I have in the attach screenshot and see if you get the proper holds. If you do, maybe there is something specific about the song you're working on that's preventing the holds from working. In my testing the holds are all playing properly in this style which you can see by the waveforms starting at the last bar 9. Check in the RealTracks Picker under the Holds column for one of the RT's (e.g. 3501), and see if it lists a number there.
