There are some very knowledgeable folks here who probably have your answers, but I thought I'd share a recent similar journey that I had not long ago. I recently was experimenting with a Behringer UMC204HD interface with BIAB and I needed some settings suggestions to start from, so I put the question to ChatGPT and bingo, I got many suggestions which really helped a lot. (I used chatgpt.com, not the ChatPG here, which might be worth a try as well).

So I just put your Moto and BIAB to a ChatGPT question and received the following reply. I'm just mentioning that so if you haven't already tried the ChatGPT route or you've already received the answers you need here, it might be worth a try. I'd suggest not so much using the below info alone, but initiating a new chat tailored to your specifics. I also found in many instances followup questions in the same Chat thread really help open thing up for real good answers and suggestions.

Motu Asio settings for band in a box
ChatGPT said:
Here are recommended MOTU ASIO settings for Band-in-a-Box (BIAB) that work well for most MOTU interfaces (M2, M4, Ultralite, 828, etc.) on Windows.
1. Band-in-a-Box Audio Settings
Open:
Options → Audio Settings
Audio Driver Type
✅ ASIO
ASIO Driver: MOTU Audio ASIO
2. Sample Rate (Important)
Set the same sample rate in BOTH:
Band-in-a-Box
MOTU Audio Console
Recommended:
🎵 44.1 kHz (best compatibility with BIAB RealTracks)
48 kHz also works, but 44.1 is safest
If they don’t match, you’ll get:
No sound
Crackles
Speed/pitch issues
3. Buffer Size / Latency
For BIAB playback & rendering (most users):
256 samples or 512 samples
If recording MIDI or live audio:
128 samples (low latency)
Go higher if you hear pops/clicks
BIAB does not need ultra-low latency unless you’re recording live.
4. ASIO Control Panel (MOTU)
Click ASIO Control Panel inside BIAB or open MOTU Audio Console directly.
Set:
Sample Rate: 44.1 kHz
Buffer Size: 256 or 512
Clock Source: Internal
Enable only the inputs/outputs you actually use (optional but cleaner)
5. Audio Outputs in BIAB
In Audio Settings:
Output Driver: MOTU Main Out (1–2)
Disable Windows audio devices (Realtek, etc.) to avoid conflicts
6. MIDI Settings (If Using MIDI)
If using BIAB MIDI synths:
MIDI Output: Microsoft GS Wavetable (basic)
Better: VSTi/DXi Synth (CoyoteWT, Kontakt, etc.)
Enable:
✅ Use VST/DXi Synth
7. Prevent Common Problems
Windows Sound Settings
Set MOTU as Default Playback & Recording device
Disable Exclusive Mode:
Sound Control Panel → MOTU → Properties → Advanced
❌ Uncheck “Allow applications to take exclusive control”
Power Settings
Windows Power Plan: High Performance
Disable USB power saving
8. Recommended “Stable” Setup (Summary)
BIAB
ASIO: MOTU
Sample Rate: 44.1 kHz
Buffer: 256–512
MOTU Console
44.1 kHz
Internal clock
Same buffer size
9. If You Tell Me:
I can dial this in exactly if you share:
Your MOTU model
Whether you record audio, just playback, or use MIDI
Windows version (10 or 11)
That lets me give you best-possible latency vs stability settings for your setup 🎶
