Looks like Celemony, makers of Melodyne, just raised the bar in music generation. https://www.tonalic.com/index.html As far as I can tell it is browser based and not AI prompt based.

Got that email. Looks interesting but I certainly wish there were some demos. Otherwise, it looks like samples being manipulated by AI—which explains being browser based to harness monster server farms. Haven’t found anything yet that lets me make the music I want. Demos may convince me otherwise.

Till then, BIAB is working for me. I used it on a couple tracks on my last album.

Tonalic's
It is a new paradigm. It's local (ARA or VST3), is not AI, loops or MIDI, but has full fidelity professionally recorded musicians playing along with your chord progression. Each bar blends with the next has smart or adjustable voice leading adjustable feel and can groove sync with the other musicians in the song,
Built on Celemony’s DNA technology, it reacts like a real musician would — following your track instead of forcing you to follow it.
It produces endless variations, human nuance, and one‑of‑a‑kind results.

Sound familiar? wink

Studio One (latest version), Win 11 23H2 , i9 -10940X 3.3 GHz, 32GB Mem, a 4K 40" monitor, PreSonus Studio Live III Console as interface/controller. secondarily test on Reaper, Cakewalk, and S1 on Surface Pro 3 Win 10 (latest versions).

My only gripe would be it is subscription based. I have enough subs right now for many things. I see you can purchase it but then get no updates after the year. But still, that is a cool idea Seems similar to BiaB with a few twists that being the ability to fine tune it better. As a VSTi version it should work inside BiaB and or RB. I would imagine coupled with the new Fender Studio one and it's own library, the BiaB plugin, and this new product one could make some tasty tracks.

If you are a current owner of Melodyn watch your emial:

Would you like to try Tonalic? For you, as a Melodyne user, we’ve prepared as a special gift a product not available for purchase: Tonalic essential. Offering an exclusive selection of guitar material, this small edition of Tonalic comes complete with all the functions and musical intelligence of the larger editions. And, what’s more, no time limit! The license will never expire.

Please bear with us at the outset, though. With so much about Tonalic that is new, we want to roll it out slowly to make sure everything is functioning correctly. This may take a few more days, but as soon as we’re set, we’ll leave a free Tonalic essential license in your user account and notify you by e-mail.

Also that subscription is not as bad as it may sound. Once you download any content - it is fully on your hard drive - forever to be used. The subscription opens open new available content each month. Over the course of the first year, you could have everything you want and still have paid less than you know what.

Are you sure about that..?
Impressive video, I am intrigued... I will follow this thread with much interest...
I've been a registered Melodyne user for years, but no emails from Celemony...
This is the first I've heard about this product.

Howdy Rob....
That is precisely why I stopped purchasing Cakewalk/Sonar several years ago after the release of Sonar Producer X3 which is still my DAW of choice since 1994.
They went subscription based after that release and I said 'no thanks'.
I have no interest with that paradigm even though it may become more ubiquitous with software creators.
I have enough song writing tools to last me a lifetime anyway with Sonar Producer X3.

Carry on.

Interesting.

This looks like a more specialized version of BiaB that's focused primarily on plucked string instruments. Plucked string sound are likely easy to extract and they pitch shift well. As they mention, Melodyne's DNA has been able to do that for years. That's not the case for a lot of instruments - in particular, the human voice.

So once Tonalic has analyzed a riff from a guitar, it can pitch shift it another set of notes pretty easily. That means you don't need the lick repeated in every key for it to sound good. And not only can the pitches be shifted, but the entire timing can be modified. And you don't need as much recorded material.

Also, riffs are pretty malleable. So unlike instrument solos - like those in BiaB - Tonalic focuses on material that can be much more generic.

I suspect that Tonalic could work with solo instruments like BiaB, but it makes sense for them to focus on this type of material first, and perhaps exclusively.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

You're getting close with that description.
It currently only has acoustic and electric guitars right down to the make and model, banjos, mandolins, other plucked instruments as well as acoustic drums and percussion instruments.

I'm sure overtime they will add piano and different keyboards.
Is at this time primarily a live simulation of a rhythm player in your song.

Hell, it even looks familiar.
There is a cross section of some of the same professional musicians that you are familiar with.
There's some good techniques for PGM to learn how to narrow down the sound instrument and musician playing style as their library is highly categorized.

Wouldn’t it be great if Band‑in‑a‑Box let you search for something as specific as a Bossa Nova nylon‑string guitar part—finger‑picked, with strums on beats 1 and 4, and arpeggiated accents on beats 2, 3, 6, and 7—and then audition those variations directly in the context of your existing song before choosing one?
In other words beat level matching.

They will be adding more DAW's in the future. This applies to the ARA part.

Interesting concept, but $275 a year rental on special, $300 there after. No, thank you.
I am not interested even if it is free. Cakewalk played that game with me and thousands of others. A tethered software that can be unplugged any time they wish to do so (even after mr.Meng promised "decades", at time when Gibson went belly up). No subs or tethered software for me please.

What PGM should do is make use of AI + their catalog to enhance and expand existing RTs, so they have more variation, different octaves, inversions, etc. Make User Tracks creating process in line with a second quarter of 21st century... again, perhaps making use of AI, so there are no "shortages" of genres and other qualities.

Fair opinions.
Add to that AI for searching.
I mean, PGM already dabbled with it a little with the help searching.

Yes, they rapidly need to fix the searching i BIAB.
To me everything else falls flat until they have fixed the searching.
The huge content becomes more or less useless if you can't find what you are looking for.
Even suggested new features as above become very limited unless I can't find what I am looking for.
