Another thought is that since Amaj9#11 has the notes A-C#-E-G#-B-D#, it would also be worth trying G#m/A. This would give you G#-B-D# played over an A bass. From a theory perspective, the books say that its best to have notes like 7ths, 9ths, 11ths, 13ths, etc, only played in one part and not doubled through various parts. Thus, if the D# is in the melody, there is no reason to put in the chord too (in fact it probably sounds better not to). This means that Amaj9 would do the job for you (if D# were in the melody).
