Here’s a bit of a vignette. This is called SUNGLASSES.

You put on sunglasses inside
No explanation
Just how you were made
We sat on the floor
Because it didn’t suggest staying
You talked about leaving
Like it was background noise
I waited for my name
It didn’t come up

You left a book on the table
Your handwriting arguing with itself
The radio was on
Not loud enough to matter
You stood up while I was still talking
Like someone else had already started
I watched you go
From the same place I stayed

Now I see sunglasses
On people standing still
Waiting for permission to cross
I don’t project
I don’t invent
I just remember
How easy it was for you
To not be there
And how easy it was
For me to be there
