https://www.johnwalradt.com/music/songs/Just_Another_Weekend_master_2023-07-17.mp3

My songs are like a travelogue of my life. In this song, I was living in Denver in the early 1990s in my 30s and still trying unsuccessfully to get a girlfriend. I started writing the song. The group I was in was too embarrassed to play the song and made fun of it, especially the lines "I want to go where the lovers go, I want to do what they do." Fast forward to 2023, I decided to finish the song and I was shy about sharing it. Ironically, when I released it on Broadjam, it quickly became my third #1 Earth song, and stayed there for two weeks.

All the instruments on "Just Another Weekend" are Band in a Box except for a very small piano part I did on midi:

Style is _DIARY.STY (Diary Emotive Modern Sync Pop)
RealTracks in style: ~~2579:Bass, Synth, RnBModernSub Ev16 065
Loop in Song: Dubstep\Dubstep - yasso_70_drum_loop_1_a_minor ev16.wav
RealTracks in style: 3670:Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm NewAgeHalfNoteChords Ev 085
RealTracks in style: 3708:Guitar, Acoustic, Rhythm 90sAcRock16ths Ev16 090
Loop in Song: Chillout\Chillout - air_74_ conga_e_minor ev16.wav
RealTracks in song: ~~362:Guitar, Acoustic, Strumming Ev 085
RealTracks in song: 1947:Mandolin, Rhythm PopModernGrooveAndy Ev16 075

Sofi Berro, a vocalist from Argentina on Fiverr did the vocals.

I used Studio One 6 for mixing. I have version 7 now. I sometimes use it for mastering or I use the Lurssen Console.

JUST ANOTHER WEEKEND Words and music by John Walradt

Out on the street
People rush or they greet
There is paper upon the sidewalk
I'm lookin' out the window and the world's looking back at me.

There's groceries to get
And laundry to do
I'll wander inside a bookstore
It's just another weekend, just another weekend for me.

I want to go where the lovers go
I want to do what they do
I don't want to live my life alone
Oh, when will my dreams come true?

Don't need a list, I'll find what I need
I stroll through a maze of aisles
A couple holding hands
Oh, when will that happen to me? Ah-ah, ah-ah

Wait at the checkstand
Gaze at the time
And hurry to send a package
It's just another weekend, just another weekend for me.

I want to go where the lovers go
I want to do what they do
Walk through the trees over scattered leaves
Oh, when will my dreams come true?

I want to go where the lovers go
I want to do what they do
I don't want to live my life alone
Oh, when will my dreams come true?

The moon is a crescent
I'll drive to the dance
Inside of an old school building
Love is for sale
The cashier hands a ticket to me, ah-ah, ah

Those eyes that I see
Are looking at me
Or is it just wishful thinking
It's just another weekend, just another weekend for me
Just another weekend for me, just another weekend for me.

Hi John!
I like the style you've chosen for this song - particularly the 'mechanical' sound to the percussion - I'm assuming that's the loop you've used? Your Fivrr singer and accompaniment gives it a folk feel. The melody has a whimsical feel to it, albeit serious and heartfelt. It made me feel like it was saying 'I'm gonna pretend it doesn't matter, but deep down it really does.'
I like it!

Thank you very much, Andrew! I'm still getting used to posting here and noticed there must be a difference between the usual reply and quick reply. You picked up on the intent behind my whimsical melody. I always go with what the melody feels like when I write. Coming up with a tune is the easy part and, of course, I love it when it's catchy and memorable. Words are the hard part. I don't really consider myself a lyricist, I just write words. Yes, the loop is the mechanical percussion. Sofi Berro is the vocalist from FiveRR. I've used her on a couple of songs so far.

HAHA! Love this, John. It's funny your nband wouldn't play --happened to me many times. Maybe the couldn't play it. Well, they couldn't play it as good as this version. A BIG WELCOME to the forum, John.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thank you for the big welcome, Babu! Most everyone I know has oddball stories of dealing with divas. It was during the covid years when I got on Broadjam that I found a few good friendships that didn't have such egos attached. But Broadjam is going down now with a lot less participation. I was curious to see what this group is like since BIAB has given me a big new lease on my songwriting life and it looks very friendly with a lot of fun!
