Coolsoft is the way to go. I have been using it for years. My choice of SoundFont is 8mbgm_enhanced18 for a simple reason. I have played bluegrass banjo for 40 years now and after checking sound fonts for years, this is the closest I have found to emulate a real banjo sound. Of course, that's my opinion. The good thing about Coolsoft is that you can load numerous soundfonts and try them all out until you find the one you like, and soundfonts are easy to find on the web. If you don't find one you like on Coolsoft's website, just do a Google search on something like "Soundfont Websites" and start looking. Band-in-a-Box 2026 Video: AI Stems & Notes - split polyphonic audio into instruments and transcribe
This video demonstrates how to use the new AI-Notes feature together with the AI-Stems splitter, allowing you to select an audio file and have it separated into individual stems while transcribing each one to its own MIDI track. AI-Notes converts polyphonic audio—either full mixes or individual instruments—into MIDI that you can view in notation or play back instantly.
